Rare Lobster with Four Claws Discovered in Maine

It pays to stand out, as this lobster proves. According to the Daily Mail U.K., a lobster caught in Maine was spared a trip to a pot due to an unusual deformity. The crustacean was saved thanks to his four claws.

Zach Donnell is the lucky fisherman to catch the crazy-clawed crustacean. The seafarer is so enchanted by his bizarre catch that he plans to keep the animal as pet for the time being.

After spending some quality time with the four-clawed crustacean, Donnell will turn the animal over to the Maine Department of Marine Resources for research.

Donnell has been unable to contact the Maine Department of Marine Resources, because their offices are closed. He is currently reaching out to state officials about his find.

While lobsters with extra claws are uncommon, it is not the first time one has been caught in the area. The extra claws are the result of a genetic abnormality.

Lobsters are also known for losing claws. The crustaceans sometimes lose a seizer or crusher claw along the way, but are able to grow a replacement for the missing part.

4 legged lobster? I wouldn't eat it. Poisons, pollution, chemicals, sewage - all in the deep waters of the sea. This one is a mutant like the eight legged frogs not far from contamination by nitrates and other fertilizers. I understand the BP Gulf oil spill will seep around Florida and head up the eastern coast and eventually feed the nutrients necessary to continue mutating lobsters, fish and the coastline. On second thought, the deformed lobsters will have more meat when presented at the dining table. We're going to die anyway. Might as well die well fed.

This deformity is rare in the U.S.A. . BUT....I once caught a huge blue crab the size of a turkey platter in the WAIR river in Glouchester County VA. this latter lead to spotting a huge black manna-ray on an incomeing tide that shocked the community when reported .So....what's the big DEAL....YOU SHOULD SEE THE FISH THERE PULLING OUT THE POTOMAC RIVER ,RAIR ( 4 FT. CHANNEL CATFISH ) .YOU NEED HEAVY GEAR TO HAUL IN . Iv'e personally snapper a zebco 404 rig an not known what the heck was on the other end to snap a 20 pound test rig setup .So what's the point HERE ?
