Photo of Panda Flying Business Class Tricks Thousandsthe daily dish
What's black and white and fake all over? This panda cub. According to the Daily Mail U.K., thousands of people on the Internet were fooled by this photo, which a press release claimed was a real panda cub riding first class.
Unfortunately, the panda pictured is actually a plush animal, not the real deal. The hoax started with a phony press release from China Airlines. The release, which was circulated with the photo, claimed, "China Airlines is a proud corporate sponsor of the panda sanctuary at Chengdu and was happy to help out recently with the transfer of a young panda cub to a zoo in the United States of America."
The release continued on to say that the business class seats were donated to Squee Squee and her caretaker to ensure she had a safe and healthy trip. The document also mentioned that the cub was outfitted with a plastic diaper to handle any accidents during the long trip.
It wasn't until after the picture was shared thousands of times and featured on numerous popular websites that the truth came out. Squee Squee is just a bunch of fluff and stuffing. Sometimes, when it comes to animal news, things seem to be too cute to be real - in this case, it was.
