Why they made the list: Allegedly, several studies conducted have resulted in evidence indicating that Pit Bulls are responsible for many human attacks. One study concluded that Pit Bulls were responsible for 42–45% of dog attacks, with children being the victim 70% of the time. Pit Bulls are restricted widely around the world, from Miami to the entire U.K.
Yes breeds have tendencies but not all fit the profile. My neighbor had a spaniel that was mean and dangerous but my husband had a bullmastiff that was docile. Recent example, I went to petsmart last weekend and had more small to mid size dogs and labs bark and growl at me and my dog than the rescue group with pit looking dogs. Only one of the dozen pit mixes was barking at my dog where many of the "normal" dog breeds there with owners were obnoxious and aggressive.
I would just like to sound off with a PITBULLS are not a breed people. Most people mistake breeds of dogs all the time. I have worked in Animal Control in 2 different states and both places people mistake many breeds as Pitbulls. I have personally witnessed similar breeds to the " Pitbulls" that were a cause of injury or destruction. In multiple instances it was a black lab. Many people see a stocky, muscular, large headed dog automatically its a "Pitbull". So the category is banned. Which is not fair at all. That's playing a race card or discriminating against a name.
PS Training or abuse does NOT make a dog aggressive. Aggression is GENETIC & is only BROUGHT out by training or abuse. BIG DIFFERENCE. ie Border Collies would not entertain any idea of biting a human. Their whole psyche has been molded thru SELECTION of breeding partners to herd sheep, period. Yes, they can do agility but NOT protection work.
The Lord above could come down & tell you all the TRUTH about dogs, but you would not even believe him. Most of you have LIMITED experience & are NOT professionals so are only giving opinions. Most pure breds are NOT well bred. A Registration is only a birth certificate & NO sign of careful selection, knowledged of the breed blueprint or dedication to breeding correct dogs. The BIG probs with PBs are : their reproduction is NOT in the hands of those with knowledge of correct dog BREEDING & 2) they don't just BITE... & let go. THEY SAVAGE : KILL & MAIM. Not 1 million PBs are worth the horrible death of their owner or having the feet chewed off of an innocent jogger. The dog scene in the US is a shambles. Americans are grosely unsophisticated about dogs. Spend a month in Germany & you will see real dog breeding, real dog people, proper facilities & responsible attitudes.
I have 3 Pitties and I can't stand when people blame the DOG and not the owner......I am constantly defending my babies breed on FB.......It's all about training and respecting your animals.....Not just the ones people think are"mean" but all dogs......Our Pits are all inside dogs and we also have a small poodle that we adopted. He came in our house at 2yrs old and from the start was one of the"pack"...LOL......We also have 2 children(5&10)....That can roll, climb and play with our dogs and have never seen as much as a toothy grin......I love all dogs and hope that we as people don't start thinking the same way about each other as we do about different dog breeds......"OH That man just killed someone"....Let's ban all men!!Or don't forget sharks.....or bears.....or alligators....Let's just go ahead and get rid of them too.....It's people being stupid.....and racist!! Dog racist...so disappointing....
I see so many comments on my FB account about Pitbulls........I get so upset when people blame the DOGS and not the owner......I have 3 Pitties and they are inside dogs.We also have a small poodle that we adopted and he came right in at 2 yrs old and joined the"Pack"..LOL.....They love our kids(5&10) and lets them roll all over them.....Our Pits have never....ever....Shown any aggression towards our children.....Are they protective to our property?Yes.....do they bark at strangers...Yes....But it's all about training and respecting dogs not just the ones people think are"mean" but all dogs......Hell I was bit on the face by a shiatsu when I was a kid........Had to get stitches.......
I have got a staffie and he is wonderful. Most ofy friends have staffies and think they are amazing dogs. It really annoys me when people say these dogs are dangerous because there not its there owners. Any dog can be dangerous like a border collie or a jack Russell. So don't just blame it on the strong dogs. And I would advise a to have any of tho dogs !
Ive raised american bullies for 13 yrs with my kids , grandkids, and other various ages of peopl and have never had a dog bite/attack. Maybe people should take their head out of their a** and see theyre punishing the wrong end of the leash. Theyre are no bad dogs just bad ownets!!!
I live with Presa Canarios. I have all my life. If you raise them from puppies, they are softies with a jumpy attitude. Even if they are adults, they are still big bundles of love. If you are looking for one, try Petfinder as your first resort. I recommend a male that is Spayed, Neutered and Possibly has ears cropped WELL. Emphasis on well. My Male Presa has stubs for ears because of the crappy job someone in the city did for me. I recommend a young dog because the only live 10-12 years.
Interesting to see the unexpected Bloodhound listed. Funnily enough, I've had nine dogs, and known/spent a lot of time around hundreds of them. The most aggressive of mine were the Maltese (she would have had to be kept in solitary confinement if she were any larger), and the Bloodhound (adopted after he retired as a police drug dog, and he had always been the alpha dog of his kennel...so he was very assertive. Bit my little brother the first day day we got him for petting his back while he was burying a bone. Sometimes he'd growl at you if you came and petted him when he just wanted to lie around and be left alone.) Other than that...well, I was nipped by a friend's German Shepherd once. My mom also knew a couple of highly aggressive Shepherds.
But me? I love and respect all dogs, of all breeds. They ALL have the capacity to be aggressive, to protect and defend themselves, their family, or their property from perceived threats...and they all have the capacity to be sweet, loving, caring, well-mannered friends. I'm no more prejudiced against American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, or ANY of the various "Pit Bull," Molosser, and other most commonly banned or restricted breeds than I am against...well, Maltese. :P BSL is BS; ban deeds, not breeds.
