Kate the Great Dane and Pippin the deer are proof that adorableness is all around us. According to Buzzfeed, Pippin's mother abandoned the 3-day-old fawn on Isobel Springett's lawn in British Colombia. That's when an unexpected foster mom stepped in to lend a helping paw.
After waiting several days for the mother deer to return with no luck, Springett decided to care for the deer herself, but the woman's Great Dane had a different idea. Springett brought the weak fawn into her home and bottle-fed the baby, but Kate the Great Dane did most of the child-rearing.
-
Almost immediately after seeing the fawn, the nurturing Kate began comforting the newborn. A bond between the unlikely pair quickly formed, which Springett eagerly documented. Kate helped Pippin get on her feet and back into the wild. While Pippin now has her own life in the great outdoors, the deer regularly visits her furry foster mom, sometimes with her own babies in tow.
-
ON YOUR OWN FOUR FEET
Kate's first days of motherhood were filled with walking lessons for the wobbly newborn.
-
ARE YOU MY MOMMA?
While Springett was doing all the feeding, this didn't stop Pippin from treating Kate like a full-time mom.
-
SHARING IS CARING
You know you've found a good friend when they are willing to split the last bite.
-
THEY GET SO BIG
Big dog Kate used to easily dwarf the puny Pippin, but those days are over.
-
SAVE ALL MY KISSES FOR YOU
Just like all good moms, Kate always fusses over her baby when she drops by for a visit.
-
THERE THERE
Aside from being an animal lover, Springett is also a full-time photographer, so tender moments like this never go uncaptured.
-
A TRIP TO THE GROOMER
Even after all of Kate's reminders, Pippin still forgets to clean behind her ears.
-
I REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE *THIS* BIG
Sometimes it is hard for a mother to accept that her little baby is no longer "little" anymore.
-
RETIREMENT
Kate and Pippin spent plenty of afternoons running around the yard. Now that a few years have passed, there is a lot more relaxing during their play dates.
-
ODD COUPLE
They may look strange together, but at least they look strangely adorable.
-
TAG - YOU'RE IT !
Pippin can't help playing a few reindeer games with mom; it's in her genes.
-
NATURE HIKE
Now that Pippin has a good handle on the ways of the woods, she can show Kate where all the unmarked trees are.
-
STANDING GUARD
It's not all fun and games with Pippin and Kate; the pair also has a serious side.

Family doesn't always make sense, but as along as it's a happy one, that's all that matters.

A spectacular story of a traditionally odd couple but is also shows that nature has no boundaries. I'm glad there were several photos along with this story as they always add icing on the cake...
