Diver Pierre Frolla literally found himself in the shark tank recently. According to the Daily Mail U.K., the free diver spent 45 minutes swimming unprotected in the Aquarium de Paris shark exhibit.

The 3 million-liter tank is home to 25 sharks, including black tip, nurse and zebra sharks. Frolla's daring dive was performed in front of a nervous audience.

While it may seem like a stunt, Frolla attempted the swim in order to deliver a message. The diver wanted to show that sharks do not deserve their fearsome, man-eating reputation.

Frolla claims that it is humans who are threatening to the underwater animals, instead.

"People think sharks are a threat, but in reality overfishing has made them, not humans, an endangered species," Frolla told Daily Mail U.K.

Currently, over 30 million sharks are caught each year and killed, often for their fins which are sold in Asia as an aphrodisiac. Frolla hopes his dive will bring awareness to this growing issue.

In addition to this dive, Frolla has gone on several other shark swims for his upcoming documentary about the sea. Over the past several years, the champion diver has spent time freely swimming with sharks in South Africa and the Bahamas.

Frolla shared that he enjoys the peacefulness of these swims and is always amazed to watch the creatures interact. But the diver warns those inspired by his shark dives that these animals have a strict code that needs to be respected.

As for the recent increase in shark attacks, Frolla admits that the events are troubling, but not all fault should fall on the shark.

"It's tragic—I'm not a defender of sharks at all costs, but there is a specific problem there between breeding sharks and surfers," Frolla told Daily Mail U.K.

Clearly, between Frolla and his recent swimming buddies, there's no problem at all.
