Skinny isn't quite living up to his name, but the orange tabby is making progress. According to TODAY, the pudgy pussycat is shedding the pounds and getting slimmer by the day.

Skinny was found wandering around Texas two months ago, weighing an impressive 41 pounds.

After some dedicated work from the East Lake Pet Orphanage, Skinny the shrinking fat cat now weighs 37 pounds.
-
Skinny lost the extra pounds through the classic mix of diet and exercise. The shelter's staff says the change has already had a positive effect on Skinny's mobility.

Skinny will probably be hunkered down at the Texas shelter for a few more months to shed his extra padding.
-
Veterinarians believe it would be unsafe to adopt out Skinny to an animal lover until he is about 30 pounds. Even when the kitty finds his forever home, his new owners will have to watch Skinny's weight.
-
It is still a mystery how 5-year-old Skinny reached the weight of a 4-year-old child, but one mystery has been solved — the cat's gender.
-
Originally the staff believed that Skinny was a female cat, hence the more feminine name.
-
After a little more handling and weight loss, it became clear that Skinny had more of a masculine side. The cat is actually a neutered male.

"Skinny" looks so much like my "Woody", (nicknamed "Woody for "Hollywood" because we got him at the L.A. Shelter when he was a sickly little 7-week-old kitten) that I almost had to cry. I would love to have Skinny. As he got well and older, children would look at him and say," "Wow!. That's the biggest cat I've ever seen!" But Woody never got as large as Skinny. I put him on Iams Dry Cat Food for Adults. He is now 13 years old and only weighs 10 1/2 lbs., but he has always been the most affectionate, friendly, sweet, talkative cat I've ever had. I love him so much he's in my will. I hope someone will look at Skinny and see inside him: a wonderful little, loving "person". Adopt him and put him on a nutritous diet and let him live a long, healthy, happy life as the two of you become to be best pals a long time.
