Anderson Cooper should feel honored to be nicknamed after such a remarkable creature! According to The Daily Mail UK, photographer Steffen Sailor was able to capture the legendary and mysterious silver fox in Canada's Yukon Territory.
-
Sailor was accompanied by his wife, who admitted that the couple had no idea what the gorgeous animal was at first.
"When we originally came across this young silver fox we didn't even know they existed at all, so had no idea what it was before this strange encounter. Steffen cautiously approached the fox and was completely astonished that it didn't run away. In fact it seemed very curious itself," she said.
-
This animal is so elusive that it usually runs away upon any human encounter. However, this particular and stunning silver fox showed no fear of Sailor and his camera, staring right into the lens.
-
Silver foxes have been called the "king of the fur-bearing animals" due to the popularity of their pelts throughout history.
"We were sure it was a red fox but the fur color just didn't fit. We asked one of the rangers at a nearby park and they confirmed it was in fact a very rare silver fox," said Sailor's wife.
-
Sailor was able to befriend the fox by speaking in a soothing voice and sitting down beside him.
-
Not only was Sailor able to capture the silver fox from afar, he was also able to come close enough to take photos of him in his natural habitat -- stretching, yawning and even lounging around.
-
The silver fox has black coloring and varying degrees of silver streaks. Its fur is so beautiful that the animal has been hunted for centuries because of this attractive feature.
