Lucy's Pawsome New Adventures

October is here, and boy do I need a breather. September was quite a month for me. I sandwiched two trips to L.A. around another road trip to wine country. Plus, I jetted to Miami and Atlanta before returning home to San Francisco. I wish airlines would give dogs and cats frequent flier miles. Midwest Airlines, now a part of Frontier, used to give miles to pets. JetBlue awards extra miles to humans who bring their pooches on board. But what about me? I could use my own miles.

While in L.A., I checked into the Sunset Marquis hotel in West Hollywood. Too bad I didn't get to spend much time there. My dance card was full. I went to a book party held under the stars at Mr. C hotel then to dinner at Ago, Robert De Niro's Italian restaurant. The next morning, I ventured to Downtown L.A. to check out Pussy & Pooch, a super cool place for pooches and felines. They have a Pawbar, where dogs and cats can feast on gourmet food prepared on the spot. You wouldn't believe my dish! A lamb patty (Primal freeze-dried formula) with sun-dried cranberries, sun-dried tomatoes and freeze-dried cheese, topped with chia seeds and a sweet potato puree drizzled over it. Yummy! I should eat that well every day.

A few days later, I made a last-minute trip back to California's wine country. Rather than return to Sonoma, this time I went to Yountville and stayed at the Vintage Inn, a very pretty place that has a couple of ginormous house cats. The hotel didn't do anything special for me, but I received lots of love from three fun females staying in the next room. They traveled all the way from New York and New Jersey for a bachelorette extravaganza, and they liked me so much they invited me to Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bistro with them. But I declined. I couldn't leave my mommy.

The following weekend I popped down to L.A. again. I was on the ground for less than 24 hours, but what a time I had! I checked into the historic Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica, right across the street from the ocean. When I waltzed into my bungalow, I had lots of goodies and a comfy Jax & Bones bed waiting for me. The hotel arranged for me to be pampered down the street at Healthy Spot, an upscale boutique and grooming spa. Naturally, I deserved the works and enjoyed a blueberry facial, moisturizing paw rub, teeth brushing and nail grinding, in addition to a shampoo, conditioner and massage. Oh, what it is to be me!

I was now ready for my first trip to South Beach. Flying first class on American Airlines to Miami, former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson sat in the row ahead of me and Warren Sapp, who played 13 seasons in the NFL, sat right behind me. I'm surprised neither asked for my pawtograph.

The 6 a.m. flight was early for me, so I wanted to do nothing but sleep when I checked into the new SLS Hotel South Beach. At night I was still too tired to go downstairs for a Versace/Saks Fifth Avenue dinner hosted by NBA star Dwyane Wade. But the next morning I checked out The Dog Bar, a posh boutique for pampered pooches like me. Lenny Kravitz, Mariah Carey and Paris Hilton have shopped there, and Billy Joel regularly brings his pooch in for grooming. My mommy bought me a new step-in harness.

Then it was on to Turnberry Isle Miami in Aventura, Fla. The resort sent a town car to pick me up, and the Turnberry staff warmly greeted me when I arrived. A plush pink bed with a matching blanket and bone, feeding bowl, mat, treats, toys and even a copy of Modern Dog were in my room. There's room service for pets, too, but my mommy must have forgotten to order mine. Maybe next time she'll remember. I wished I could have stayed at Turnberry longer, but I had to go to Atlanta for a funeral of a man who loved Westies. It was a sad way to end an otherwise fabulous trip.
