It's not easy being green, especially when folks expect you to be golden. According to the U.K. Daily Mail, a Labrador puppy, appropriately named Hulk, was born with a green tint to his fur.
The oddly hued newborn was one of eight pups born to new mom Buttons and her owners, Naomi Grimes and Kyle Murray. All the the pups were born with the usual golden coats, except for Hulk. The couple was shocked to see Hulk, baby number two, greet the world with a green grin on his face.

"At first we thought it must be just because of the birth and it would wash off," Grimes told Daily Mail. "When that didn't work, we got a bit alarmed and starting searching the Internet."
After a few clicks they found that Hulk had a rare condition that occurs when the dog's mother is exposed to a substance called biliverdin, which can be found in the placenta, during pregnancy.

Thankfully, the condition is not harmful to the pup, causing only a temporary discoloration (and shock in all who see him). As is typical with this issue, Hulk's unusual glow gradually disappeared over a few weeks. The peppy pup is now the same shade as his siblings.
Hulk may be normal-hued now, but his owners say the special canine still stands out from the bunch. The pair originally planned on selling all the babies, but admit that the formerly green cutie will probably become a permanent resident.

All those fluids that come out usually have a green tone to it. Placentas, puppy poop, etc. Nothing strange at all. Eventually, it will go away.

All those fluids that come out are more or less in a green color. From the placentas, puppy poop, etc. Nothing strange at all. Eventually it will go away. Must be a verrrry unexperienced breeder:-)
October 11 2012 at 6:43 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow interesting! I have never seen anything like this before. I wouldn't think this is jaundice because the coat color is affected but I am curious about the placenta being the reason. If this was something passed on to the puppy from the placenta then how come the other puppies don't also have green fur? Is there only one placenta for puppies or are there several? Again, very interesting and really cute pictures! Thanks for sharing.

October 10 2012 at 5:14 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down Replythere are some pretty strange colored fluids that come out with the puppies. He might have gotten bathed with them more than his siblings. i don't think he'll be green for long. Also it does seem that the photo is enhanced a bit.......
