    We never turn down a chance to celebrate something cute. According to Zooborns, the Berlin Zoo is in celebratory spirits thanks to two tiny cats.

    The facility welcomed two baby rusty-spotted cats. This was the first birth of rusty-spotted cats in the zoo's 168-year history, and these adorable faces were definitely worth the wait.

    The kittens were born in early August and have just recently decided to explore the world outside their den. Now that the babies are hamming it up for the cameras, they have quickly become zoo favorites.

    Rusty-spotted cats are native to Sri Lanka and India. The felines are rarely seen in the wild  because they are nocturnal.

    They are the smallest wild cat species in the world. The tiny carnivores grow up to be only 2 to 3.5 pounds in adulthood.

    Both of the kittens are females and weighed around 2.5 ounces at birth. The newborns are still getting used to holding up their small amount of weight, clumsily making their way around their exhibit.

    Wild rusty-spotted cats are considered vulnerable due to loss of habitat. Much of this can be attributed to the conversion of woodlands into farms.

    These tiny hunters prefer dense forest and grasslands where the can sneak out at night to find mice, birds and lizards.

    There is not much information about these cats' behavior in the wild. Due to their small size and secretive nature, there has been little opportunity to observe the rusty-spotted cat.

    Because so little is known about these animals and many zoos do not exhibit them, the birth of these two baby beauties is especially important for protecting the species.
