No-Nonsense Woman Scares Bear Off Deck

the daily dish More on PawNation: Bear Scare, Bears, Exotic, Funny, Talented, Weird, Wild Animals
It's hard to tell who is the more terrifying predator in this video. This bear just seems to be enjoying a nice afternoon among the flowers and sunshine. Too bad the garden's owner isn't sympathetic to trespassers-even the fuzzy kind. We bet this woman could get Yogi Bear to kick his picnic basket habit for good.

@mweatherly90, there are maulings by black bears every year throughout the eastern southern states. Black bears are known to attack, especially women and children. She did the exact right thing. Make it unpleasant for the bear, show no fear, be dominant like you would with a dog. She did the right thing.

Umm Black bears aren't that dangerous and are pretty docile...Brown bears are the ones who attack 'at random'...The fact is, that woman didn't want the bear to eat anything on her patio.

Let's send this lady to Washington, DC where she will do much more good than in her own back yard.

Black bears live their lives in a rigid pecking order. If you have the cojones to yell at the bear, the beast figures you outrank it, and takes off without an arguement. I used to get regular visits from a black bear, until he showed up when I was in a royal *itch of a mood. I grabbed the broom & ran out, screaming like a banshee. Only had to do that twice more, and now the bear avoids me completely! My last bear sighting was 5 months ago, and that was the south end of a bear headed north, rapidly!

Perhaps the bear and lady know each other from past encounters. Maybe even far back when then the bear was a cub. Bears can smell fear in animals as well as people. I'm not saying if you show no fear it won't attack you, I'm just saying you stand a better chance surviving a encounter by giving the bear that you hold authority over it. The big factor was the bear did not and was not cornered or trapped. So it knew it had an avenue of escape. Also it could have already ate and was just curious rather than hungry.

Probably reminded him of his bear wife yelling at him. It actually looked like a usual occurrence considering the fact that the camera man didn't seem all that surprised to see the bear. He even yelled to the woman like he just saw an annoying neighbor again. And from what I have read black bears are pretty timid animals and she did exactly what you supposed to do when you encounter one. With that said they will still attack and easily kill humans in certain situations

I live in rural Montana and this bear had to know lady or was not interested in a confrontation.

Bears seldom go after people ,unless they perceive danger or are really hungry

Black bears are really very timid creatures. Even mothers with cubs are easily frightened off. There are just so many misconceptions about black bears. Learn the facts, see live webcams and even join the friendly chat at bear.org
