Drusillas parks welcomes four new fat-tailed gerbils who are looking forward to meeting lots of school children.These gerbils store fat and water in their long, almost bald and club-shaped tails.

A long-eared fox puppy nuzzles against his father. Zoo Praha's pair of long-eared foxes gave birth to quadruplets this year!

Lil' Joe, a wayward manatee rescued by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission pops his head out of the river to say hello. 

ADORABLE ABUNDANCE 

Red pandas are endangered in the wild so Dublin Zoo are extremely pleased to welcome their second litter of the year! 

KARISHMA THE PAINTER 

Whipsnade Zoo's 14-year-old Asian elephant artist Karishma put trunk to paper today to help mark Elephant Appreciation Weekend. They hope to raise vital funds for the Zoo's worldwide elephant conservation and research projects.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE OTTERS GONE?

Did you know that nobody has seen a wild sea otter on the Oregon Coast for more than 100 years? We hope they make a comeback soon.

Cincinnati Zoo held a naming contest for their adorable King Penguin chick. The results are in and his name is Charlemagne.

A keen wildlife photographer spent days capturing this amazing shot of a kingfisher perched on a beer bottle, all to win a bet.

JUNIOR, GET BACK HERE! 

A wolf cub in northern Germany tries to slip away from its mother after she received his report card. Perhaps that didn't happen, but we think it's a possibility. 

GREEN-EYED LOVE

A runt kitten named Little Big Burger is currently up for adoption in Sherwood, Ore. At around 6 1/2 weeks old, he weighed about 11 ounces and had eyes and ears that were too big for his face. We think he's just beautiful!

"ANIMAL PRACTICE" PREMIERES TONIGHT 

It's about time TV put the spotlight on our talented and adorable furry friends. Be sure to tune in to NBC tonight at 8 p.m. to catch the premiere episode of NBC's "Animal Practice."

MONKEYS ARE A-CHANGING 

The Maryland Zoo's Colubus monkey is growing up right before the zookeepers' eyes. Look at that adorable face!

WHAT'S YOUR NAME? 

The Amur tiger cubs at the Minnesota Zoo are now 3 months old and (just like many other children) have been affectionately named "No" and "Stop That" by their human caretakers. We love it!

Bronx Zoo says its Caribbean flamingo chick is growing like a weed. Soon, she'll be tall, pink and fabulous.

Mesker Park Zoo welcomes the arrival of three new Coquerel's sifakas named Dean, Sebastian and Kelyfamata.

Fun Fact: The king vulture has a more powerful beak than any other South American vulture and often makes the first tear into a large carcass.

Five Madagascar big-headed turtle babies hatched at the Houston Zoo. This critically endangered species has never been hatched in any zoo ever.

KUDU CALF CUTIE

After almost two weeks, experienced mother Taraja and her new Greater Kudu calf are now on exhibit. While Greater Kudus can live up to 20 years, they're only this little for a short time.

BIG EARS, NO FEARS 

Three-month-old Nyah is a bold and courageous tiny elephant! She can be seen waltzing around Indianpolis Zoo with a smile on her face! 

SUMATRAN SWEETIES 

Newly born Sumatran tiger cubs lie inside a cage with their mother at the Taman Rimba Zoo.

PAINT ME 

An otter at Georgia Aquarium lays on its side as though it was posing for a painting. 

RELEASE THE SNAKES 

Reintroduction biologist Allison Sacerdote offers an inside look at a "soft release" of smooth green snakes. Lincoln Park Zoo is partnering with the Lake County Forest Preserve District to restore the insect-eating reptiles to northern Illinois. 

HAND FED 

Monterey Bay Aquarium hand-feeds and pole-feeds many of the animals in their Habitats exhibit, even the sharks. This helps ensure everybody gets just the right amount to eat. 

BIRD SURVIVOR 

An illegally shot red-tailed hawk is currently recovering at Audubon Society of Portland's care center. A bullet fractured her left wing when she was shot in Vancouver, Wash. No worries, though; she is doing well now. 

OM NOM NOM 

A naked mole rat at Oregon Zoo chomps on some carrots for lunch. Cute or creepy? Your call. 

PRECIOUS PLUMAGE 

Artis Zoo's gannet is developing well and now has white-and-brown plumage.

PUPPY LOVE 

Ian Somerhalder plays with Raj, a dog up for adoption at Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt event, which helps raise funds for local animal-welfare groups. 

PLUMP CAT NEEDS FUREVER HOME

A 41-pound fat cat named Skinny at the Richardson, Texas, Animal Services shelter was dropped off at the facility last week. She seems healthy, except she is too heavy and likely has diabetes. 

TIMID TAPIR 

A baby tapir rests its head on its mother's while greeting the day at Dublin Zoo. 

FAST LEARNERS 

Dickerson Park Zoo's giraffe calf stood up within an hour of birth! Amazing.

MAMA'S BOY 

Bomassa the baby gorilla rests on his mother's arm. According to keepers, it will be at least a year before he wanders far from his mom.

OH MY OKAPI! 

An adorable okapi calf at Antwerp Zoo is the face of hope. A devastating raid to the Okapi Wildlife Reserve in the Democratic Republic of Congo left the entire breeding herd of okapis dead, as well as 19 people. 

PRECIOUS PREMIERE 

Minnesota Zoo's two Amur leopard cubs decided to come out and present themselves to the public today.

WELCOME, BABY GIRL

After a long wait, Colchester Zoo is delighted to announce that their pair of pygmy hippos, Venus and Freddy, have successfully bred, resulting in a healthy baby girl.

MUD BATH
