Elvis Look-Alike Bug Found in Thailand
the daily dish
Elvis lives! The king is back in bug form. According to the (U.K.) Daily Mail, Photographer Darlyne Murawski from Massachusetts spotted this stink bug with an undeniable resemblance to the pompadoured crooner.
Murawski found the Pentatomoidea bug, or giant shield bug, while on assignment in the Khao Chong Forest Reserve in southern Thailand for National Geographic. The insect that resembles the music icon was sitting on a leaf minding it's buggy business before Murawski gave the creature a shot at stardom.
"The instant I saw it, I did a double-take," Murawski told the Daily Mail.
The bug's back, complete with a face and pompadour, caused the photographer to pull out her camera. Elvis the insect was happy to stick around for a few shots. After showing her pictures to locals, Murawski discovered the bug's classification. The photographer believes that this variation of insect, while native to the area, is rare because many locals have never seen the creature before. Other variations of the bug species, which sport a less famous look, are more plentiful.
Another photographer, Winston Jansen, caught the bug on camera several years before, but thought it looked more like Sesame Street's Bert than the King. One thing is certain: This insect's got a famous face. Or back.
