Bull Penis Dog Treats Recalled for Salmonella Risk
the daily dish
Bull penis may not seem like something you would feed your dog, but it is the main ingredient of a popular and potentially dangerous pet treat. According to NBC News, Boots & Barkley's American Beef Bully Sticks, which consist of dried bull penises, are being recalled after the snack tested positive for salmonella.
The sticks are made by Kasel Associated Industries, located in Denver. The company voluntarily recalled the product after a routine inspection by the Colorado Department of Agriculture found salmonella in some of the samples. Treats affected by this recall were those sold in Target stores between April and September. The product can be identified by the bar code 647263899189. The company has yet to receive any reports about illness in connection to the treats.
Salmonella can affect both the pets who ingest the treats and the humans who handle them. Pets sickened by salmonella can be lethargic and often have bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some animals experience pain and a loss of appetite, while other pets may not show any signs, but still pass the infection on to others. In humans, salmonella infections cause vomiting, diarrhea and cramping. Treatment is not usually required.

Regardless of whether pet owners have seen symptoms of salmonella infection or not, Kasel Associated Industries is urging all of its consumers to return the treats to their places of purchase for a full refund.
