Denver, Colorado has some of the worst BSL laws and regulations. Who did the research for this story? Over 3,000 Pitbull and other breeds have been put down because of BSL laws. How could you rate the city an A+?

Miami is such a great city for dogs that it has BSL laws in place that ban Pitbull's and Pitbull type dogs....give me a break, do you know how many animals have been put to sleep because of these laws?

The author clearly did not research very well. San Diego Has 4 dog beaches with lots of areas to run, numerous dog parks, dog friendly outdoor cafes, dog washes, events to support the animal shelters, and more. I live in Kensington. There is an annual dog calendar of neighborhood k-9s which benefits the local branch library.

Nashville, TN. has wonderful dog parks , good animal control no kill facilities and one sees very few strays. Good work Nashville!

San Diego gets a D+ and is number 62?!? What are these ratings based on? San Diego has over a dozen dog parks and at least 4 dog beaches. How the heck did it get ranked so low?

I know right, but yet California was rated #1 out of all the other states for most humane state for animals.

Totally conflicting from one poll to another. San Diego is by far one of the best cities for dogs, I don't care what these stupid survey's say.

Not only all of the dog parks, but the number of people who own dogs and the number of places where restaurants have patio areas with bowls of water, the number of dog wash places, pet shops, and more. I live in Kensington . We have an annual calendar of neighborhood dogs and the $$ goes to support the little library. They REALLY messed up on this one.

@ Ariel, before you start saying ignorant ****, you probably should invest in a map of the US and study it closely to learn the locations of each state. I'm from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and thank God we finally got electricity and phone service out here in the sticks. In case you're interested, I thought I'd enlighten you about our animals. Louisiana has one of the best networks of no-kill animal shelters in the country. They are run by loving and compassionate people who truly care about animals. Our Animal Countrol Centers rank high as they are also no-kill. Oh yes and this low class southern state also has dog parks for the enjoyment of it's animals and their owners. In addition to that I thought you'd like to know that many, many people come down to Louisiana for Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, or one of our other festivities or attractions and they love it here so much that they end up staying or coming back to live here because we are a warm, friendly, hospitable and welcoming culture. Oh and BTW, I don't know where you're from, but we don't want your kind down here "in the south" lowering our standards.

In Miami Beach we find a constant struggle with buildings that do not allow dogs. Of course a lot of people there are afraid of one the senses dogs have i.e. sniffing drugs, etc

I don't know where you received your infomation from. To start off with the picture displayed for Anchorage AK is of some tiny timy village somewhere, maybe not even in AK. Anchorage population is around 300,000.

I'm a commissioner on the Anchorage Animal Control Advisory Board serving the Anchorage Assembly and Mayor. We have six dog parks, hundreds of miles of bike/dog/people trails. We are working hard to give animals a better life. Unlike many other cities we also have other factors to work with such as our wild animal population, like bears, moose, wolves, eagles, and non compliance people.

We also have state laws which don't always favor amimals and muti-cultrual views. I guess Im trying to say establishing a list, inaccurate pictures of cities which indicates lack of research, is a poor way to get a point across.

Pittsburgh is not dog friendly at all. i cannot imagine where you found your statistics. it is difficult to find any apartment in the city that takes dogs and most condos do not allow them. definitely a mistake to think that Pittsburgh is dog friendly-ms

I have lived in all the top 15 cities. It is pretty accurate but I would say Tucson should be number 2.
