Tip 8:
Keep your dog on a brisk pace for the majority of the walk so that he trots rather than saunters. This gait exercises both sides of your dog's body and provides him with a cardiovascular workout.

Purina should be ashamed of themselves for claiming they want\ to help dogs to live longer - after the poor quality of their pet food they lie about. It is a federal law that all meat sent from a slaughter house to a pet food plant must be denatured so it does not get back into the human food chain. This means pouring kerosene over it, phenol, fuel oil, etc. These are carcinogens. And for good measure these now chemically contaminated meat pieces are coated with food coloring. Food coloring is derived from coal tar. Which is known to cause cancer. And dogs and cats fed this every day for years - no wonder so many of our pets are dying of cancer.

To their credit, Purina has in the past tried to avoid meat meal made from dogs and cats. Just where do you think all those bodies go of animals killed at animal shelters. Some brands of pet food (haven't checked Purina lately) have no meat at all, just by-products. Heads, beaks, feathers, etc. Do a google for "food pets die for" (with the quotes). Some enterprising businesses took some of the meat trimmings away from dog and started feeding it to humans (pink slime).
The best way to have your dog enjoy a long healthy life is to NOT feed it grocery store dog food. Make your own food for your dogs.
Just a thought... dogs and cats, and whatever else.... live just as long now as they did before. Things die. People die. Get over it.

Keep your weight down and you will be much healthier and live longer. It will also save you lots of money on Veterinary bills!
October 10 2012 at 10:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI just had to "put down" by yellow lab of 12 years. It hurts so bad. I have been crying for well over a week now. I miss him so much.... he was so much a part of my life.... it is the same as losing a close "people" friend.... maybe more. He had cancer, was only diagnosed 2 months ago. He was not able to stand on his back legs and was in much pain. It happened fast. It was his time. So I say to all of you, enjoy each day with your friend.... I did with my dear, dear Ricky..... still I miss him so.. -Bill - Hollywood, Florida
September 26 2012 at 11:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy sincerest condolences, Bill. Do yourself a favor, go to a local shelter and adopt another angel just waiting to complete your life. It would be an honor to Ricky's memory. I have a yellow too, can't bear to think about the day he'll leave our lives.

September 21 2012 at 12:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy last dog lived to be 20 and I had to put him to sleep...I could not do it myself my daughter took him to the vet, I felt like I had killed one of my children...it took my 8 years till I could get myself to buy another dog...I now have a sweet little dog who is now 7 and I've had him sense he was 10 months...I leave dry dog food in a bowl 24-7 and they eat when ever they want I don't think you can do this with an adult dog I start this when I first get them, when they are little puppies. my dogs are never over weight. I never add all the other can doge food with the dry. They will eat when they get hungry.
