Guinness World Record Crowns New Tallest Dog
the daily dish
Sorry, Giant George, but your time standing above all other pooches has come to an end. According to People Pets, Guinness World Records just awarded the title of Tallest Dog to Zeus from Michigan.
Zeus is a Great Dane who measures 3 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He is exactly what his owners were looking for. When Denise and Kevin Doorlag decided to get a dog, they both agreed they wanted to go big. It looks like the plan worked.
"It's kind of comical," Kevin Doorlag tells People Pets. "Everybody we see is like, 'Is that a horse? Is he part horse, part giraffe?'"
Zeus may be big in size, but he is low on sass. The Doorlags say their mighty pooch is a huge softy, and that Zeus enjoys making friends with animals of all sizes. If another canine barks at the towering dog, it is Zeus who runs and hides. Obviously, he is unaware of the expression "large and in charge."

Zeus puts his huge heart to good use, volunteering as a therapy dog at a local hospital, where his size also comes into play. The Great Dane is a favorite among patients due to his sweet demeanor and impressive size that allows people to hug him without bending over their beds.
Outside of the hospital, Zeus enjoys a laid-back home life. Some of his favorite things to do are sitting on his owners' laps and taking long snoozes on his own queen-size futon.
Zeus beat out Giant George by only an inch, but it was enough to crown Zeus as the tallest of all dogs. Good thing he has a name to match.

Zeus looks great! Did you also know that many big dogs like Great Danes can't eat a lot at a time and that if their stomach flips they could die before you can get them to the vets! Slow and steady wins the race!

September 14 2012 at 5:29 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat is dog is extremely malnourished!! Shame on the owners and shame on guinness for allowing an animal in such poor shape the title. The last title owner was a very beefy healthy animal.
