Pudsey may be Britain's most talented dog, but he certainly isn't the smallest. According to the (U.K.) Daily Mail, that title now belongs to Mini, a Yorkie/Chihuahua mix who weighs only 1.3 ounces.
-
At birth, Mini was easily overshadowed by her brother and sisters, who were about three times larger. Worried about Mini's small size, her owner, Emma Williams, started a special feeding schedule. Along with meals from her mother, Mini receives extra bottle feedings every two hours.
-
The extra servings have worked. Mini is growing and is now big enough to hang out with the rest of the litter. Mini is currently 1.9 ounces, which is still much lower than the normal 4.5 ounces for a dog her age, but large enough to give Williams hope that Mini will pull through.
-
Smaller size means smaller appetite. While Mini's siblings are getting a full ounce of milk a day, Mini can handle only one tenth of an ounce. But even with the reduced diet, Mini can still strong-arm her brothers and sisters. Now that she's back in the mix with her litter, Mini has no problem snagging a meal from Mom.
-
Mini's petite puppy frame is one trait that she didn't get from her parents. Unlike their remarkably small puppy, Mini's mom and dad both are large for their breed.
-
Williams told the Daily Mail, "Mini was the second puppy to be born, so at first I thought she was a normal size and the other was big and chunky. But as the others came out it became apparent she was so dinky. I couldn’t believe it when I saw just how small she was."
-
Williams began to understand just how unusually tiny Mini was when she visited her vet's office with the newborn. All the doctors at her office admitted to never seeing a puppy that small. Vets expect that Mini will reach only 1.5 pounds when she is fully grown.

PawNation keeps referring to Mini as a "she" but in at least one picture, it's obviously a "he!

August 30 2012 at 8:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't have anything against cross breeds (now called "designer dogs") but I think it's criminal to breed them to be so small (or have short snouts) when it makes them so susceptible to to broken bones and illnesses. If you want such a tiny pet, get a hamster. Although they really are cute!
August 30 2012 at 8:12 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyI'd love to have a Chihuahua but I don't know anyone that has one that isn't yappy. I can't get my poodle to stop barking so I'm pretty sure I'd be a failure with a Chihuahua also.
i agree

September 03 2012 at 9:49 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMini will grow. I bred Yorkies for awhile. and I have a rescued female Chihuahua that I let breed with my Yorkie. Her babies were very tiny at birth too. (2 to 6 ozs at birth) but they grew to be between 3 and 5 lbs full grown. :) But they are adorable as any new baby is.. a miracle, each and every one!! :)
August 30 2012 at 1:37 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt's hard on dogs to keep changing them. Sure, it's cute, but no fun for the dogs. They're so highly breed, they sicken easily and are delicate. Can't we stop the breeding, especially the designer breeds. So many sweet dogs need to be rescued.
August 29 2012 at 10:08 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI raise Chis, Poms, Min Pins and some of our new born chis weigh 1 oz and the largest at full growth has been 10 lbs and smallest 14 ozs.
August 29 2012 at 9:52 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis puppy so adorable is not fully grown. we must wait at least 12 months to 18 months at full growth to see how big she is.
By the way do not be taken in with terms like Tea Cup Chi or Petite Chis, that is not in the standard, ditto for Poms and Min Pins.

But the pup is cute.
please be sure to spay and neuter all pets and please rescue 1 or better 2 at your local animal shelter.
ALSO did you know the Am Humane Assoc and the American SPCA does not support any local shelters and returned less than 25 cents of every dollar in for animal welfare.
Support only your local animal shelters and please food, toys, volunteering is just as important as monetary donations.
