A 5-day-old baby hippopotamus swims next to its mother, Kibu, at the National Zoo in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

FEEL BETTER, LITTLE FOX 

A female gray fox recently came into the Lindsay Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek, Calif. in very bad shape. Her bloodwork indicated that she was suffering from rodenticide poisoning. However, she's recuperating with some vitamin K, and should be better in no time. 

BABY CROCS 

Three endangered Morelet's crocodiles hatched from their eggs at the Cotswold Wildlife Park near Burford, Oxfordshire, England.

MEET THE DOCTORS 

Crystal the celebrity monkey poses as Dr. Rizzo next to her costar, Justin Kirk, who plays Dr. George Coleman. Their show, "Animal Practice," premieres a new episode on Sept. 26 on NBC. 

NO HAIR, DON'T CARE 

International star Ralph the bald penguin is in desperate need of a new wetsuit. Ralph has had to wear a customized wetsuit to protect him from the sun and keep him warm on colder evenings.

BONOBO BRILLIANCE 

Kanzi the bonobo from the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines, Iowa has discovered how to create tools in order to obtain food. This 31-year-old primate is considered one of the most advanced animals alive, having already shown an understanding of human language and communication.

NAME THAT ANIMAL 

If you said warthog, you guessed right. The strange-looking creature was photographed right after its daily mud bath. 

POOCH PARTY 

The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County offered pet vaccinations in Memphis, Tenn. Little Bitza Witzl in a pink tutu and poodles Bella Digor and Cole Pierre were in attendance.

The Smithsonian National Zoo welcomed the births of three different hoofed species in the span of one week. A male scimitar-horned oryx, a female Przewalski’s horse and a female onager all arrived hours apart from one another.

Jambo Junction at Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Fla. recently welcomed a new addition to its three-banded-armadillo family. The former duo has now become a trio thanks to proud armadillo parents Zowie and Ollie.

BABY ALLIGATORS 

A baby alligator emerges from its eggshell as it is hatched at Gatorama's Alligator Hatching Festival near Palmdale, Fla. Gatorama officials said it was a very good year for eggs!

SPECIAL SWEETHEART 

Hani, a baby Somali wild ass, walks with her mother, Lisha, at Zoo Miami. There are fewer than 1,000 Somali wild asses remaining in Eastern Africa.

Sangay, Chester Zoo's spectacular sun bear, greets visitors in the sticky heat.

France is sweltering under a summer heat wave, leaving everyone to run for the water, including this big dog. 

CAPYBARA CUTIES 

Brevard Zoo welcomed four tiny capybaras last week to first-time parents Bailey and Clancy.

A baby male eland calf is hand-reared at the Outback Nursery section of Bush Gardens in Tampa, Fla. He was born in late July and weighed 53 pounds.
