Married Couple Drowns Trying to Save Their Dog
the daily dish
Animal lovers until the end, a couple lost their lives trying to save a dog. According to WGGB-TV, Daniel and Patricia Cyr drowned Monday night in the Hampton Ponds of Westfield, Mass., while trying to rescue their pet.
The couple took their boat out to the center of one of the ponds that evening. Daniel Cyr, Patricia Cyr and their small dog were all aboard the craft. At some point, the canine jumped off the boat and into the water.
Concerned about the small animal succumbing to the large pond, 64-year-old Daniel Cyr quickly jumped in after the dog. Before the man could secure his pet, he became distressed from the deep water. Seeing her husband in trouble, 61-year-old Patricia Cyr jumped into the water as well, but soon found it difficult to swim.

This is so sad, and a reminder to use pet flotation devices for your furry friends.

I don't care about the comments other people would make either, the only thing that matters is how I feel about my pet. I couldn't leave him to die.

This is a very tragic accident, the husband was in trouble so the wife went into the water trying to save him. You can't fault her for that...........I just want to know why the family of the deceased couple would not take in their dog. Apparently they didn't care how the couple felt about him. Sad this is very, very sad

They weren't wearing life jackets on the boat, they didn't put life jackets on before jumping in. They misjudged the water, was probably too cold looking at the temps on the vid ticker, and they went hypothermic. They misjudged the dog's distress due to the fact he was safely pulled from the water when rescuers arrived, IOW he swam until rescued.

August 21 2012 at 8:24 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAbsolutely ridiculous...however, this is Darwin in action. The animal is just that. An animal. It's a pet...not a person or a family member; no matter how much some moronic person might try to personify a dumb animal. It's NOT worth risking human life for a pet or animal, AT ANY TIME. The mere fact that you would risk human life to save a pet just illustrates Charles Darwin's theory to the maximum. The strongest, smartest species will survive, while the dumbest and weakest will die off.
