Shark Smiles After Big Meal During Sardine Run
the daily dish
Here's something to smile about if you're a true sushi lover. According to the (U.K.) Daily Mail, one shark couldn't help showing off its chompers with a wide smile during the sardine run in Port St. Johns, South Africa.
The sardine run is a natural phenomena that happens every year. Millions of sardines travel northeast up the country's coast in massive shoals. While there is usually safety in numbers, this is not one of those cases.
Sharks, dolphins, whales and birds all wait around the coast during the sardine run, turning the shoals of fish into massive bait balls. One of this year's feeders is the mugging black-tip shark shown in this photo.

The photographer, Vladimir Levantovsky, told the Daily Mail that this happy camper was one of dozens of 12-foot sharks gobbling down the convenient meal. The animals that take part in this feeding frenzy work to separate the shoals into smaller groups, guiding them toward the surface so they are easier to catch.
Levantovsky said that most of the sea creatures stopping in on the sardine run left with full bellies that day. "None of the sharks appeared to be starving too much," he said.

I would think Pawnation would ensure the veracity of any photos before they post to their site, but I have to admit this does look photoshopped even though you can't see the sharp pointed teeth in the photo because the shark's mouth isn't completely open. Still given the numbers of photos of sharks with their mouths slightly open, they don't usually have teeth so close together like most humans and/or mammals do.
