Woman Reunited With Horse Stolen 10 Years Ago

Patience has paid off for one dedicated horse lover. According to the "Today" show, Michelle Pool of Eureka Springs, Ark. was finally reunited with her horse, Opie, 10 years after the animal was stolen. 10 years ago, Pool discovered a gaping hole clipped through one of the fences in her father's pasture. Her horse, who had been inside, was gone. It was obvious to Pool that someone had sneaked onto the property during the night and stolen Opie, who was only staying at the farm while Pool went through back surgery.

Desperate to find Opie, Pool called the police and reported the horse missing. She also started her own search. Pool covered the area in fliers about the stolen horse and went door-to-door to hundreds of houses asking neighbors if they had seen Opie being taken away. Sadly, the thieves slipped by everyone, and Pool had no leads to follow. She expanded the range of her hunt, posting Opie on Stolen Horse International, and spending countless hours searching for the horse for sale online. No word of the animal was found.

As life continued and Pool moved away from her hometown, her belief that she would find Opie grew fainter. But 10 years later, she received a phone call. On the other end of the line was Debi Metcalfe of Stolen Horse International. They had finally found Opie.

Watch the reunion magic happen at 2:44 in the video below:

Metcalfe recounted Opie's whereabouts for the past 10 years. The horse had been discovered for sale on Craigslist and renamed War Bonnet. A woman went to see the horse, planning on purchasing it for her daughter. When asked about the animal's past, the current owner said she received it from a pastor who was having trouble calming the horse down, and that the pastor had been given the horse by another man who found it wandering around on an interstate.

Skeptical of the story, the potential buyer decide to search the horse's past online, and found the report that Pool had filed on Stolen Horse International. With her daughter's encouragement, the woman called Stolen Horse International and told them about Opie's current situation. Eager to right the wrong, Metcalfe worked with authorities to get in touch with Pool, and had Opie seized and returned to her in 48 hours.

If they are showing the horse show photo as being of Opie, then these are different horses. The horse she is showing at a horse show is NOT the same horse -- look at the face blaze -- one photo with the lady with blonde hair has a wide white blaze across it's eyes. The paint she is mounted on has a thin line. Wrong horse. I have paints and their coats are very distinctive - no two alike really. Can you clarify?

Thank heaven for Deanna checking netposse.com before she bought Opie. I support the strictly volunteer organization which made this reunion possible. www.netposse.com

I am so glad that Opie got home! This could have been a kill trader, or just a question forever in this woman's mind where her beloved Opie went to. And what a wonderful color/patterning! Reminds me of a bunny I used to own.

That women was an Angel in Michelle's eyes..she probably never thought she would see him again! She cast the pebble in the pond, now the ripple effect will carry on. Someone out there will read this story and carry on this kindness, and world will be a much happier place..Too bad it can't always be like this...Or can it be? ♥ I'm really happy Opie is Home Again...this time for good!! ♥♥♥ God Bless All ♥

The power of a love that knew no bounds was guiding the way and the light of fate was ignited. What a beautiful story and this song is so fitting for this reunion.

I'd wanna talk to that man who "found the horse wandering around on the interstate"!!! This woman lost 10yrs with her horse. 10 YEARS that she can NEVER get back and who knows how the horse was treated in the meantime. I'd be out to get me a (bad word) horse thief and nail him to the wall. Don't mess with me and don't mess with my animals or you're dead meat is what I say. But then I know how much the animal population on this Earth is USED by the humans on it. Wonderful that she got the horse back in what looks to be great condition. Just chaps my hide that it is old enough now she won't have it a whole lot longer - it isn't FAIR.

I like stories with Disney endings. We all need a good lump in the throat story once in a while. Good job done by all of them!
