Connecticut Town Wants to Take Away Family's 20-Pound Rabbit
the daily dish
The town of North Haven, Conn. is trying to send a family's pet hopping. According to WTNH, the Lidksy family has been told that it is illegal to keep Sandy, their giant Flemish rabbit who weighs upwards of 20 pounds.
Based on an old ordinance, rabbits of Sandy's size are considered livestock and must be kept on property that is two acres or larger. Not meeting these land requirements, the Lidskys have been served a cease and desist order to surrender the animal. The family plans on fighting the town's demands, since they believe that Sandy, who spends most of her time in her hutch, isn't a danger to any residents.

Sandy is also part of the family. The Lidskys have cared for their big bunny for three years, and their daughter, Kayden, sees the animal as a best friend. Kayden's father, Joshua Lidsky, assures WTNH that his family isn't trying to cause trouble; they just want to protect their beloved pet, live in peace and pay their taxes.

This kind of thing is happening more and more...now I see where a woman was cited for failure to get a permit for her 11 year old's birthday party, and a minister is doing time in Arpaio's jail (tent city in Phoenix with 3-digit temps) for holding Bible studies in his home without permission. This is not a free country if local governments harass citizens in this manner and the Federal government will not enforce guaranteed Constitutional rights. As for the bunny, don't break this kid's heart. I had a dog as a kid and if anyone had tried to take her away I would have fought physically and then probably died of grief. This family should first take the bunny to a safe place like a relative's where the government is not doing this to people, and then they should fight tooth and nail to bring the establish to its knees where it should be. Meanwhile we the people *must* wake up and smell the coffee and cut these governments down to their proper size, which is small! (Support Ron Paul!)

This town surely has other more important things to do with it's time than to harass this family who loves this pet bunny...SERIOUSLY...Connecticut needs to get a life, get a clue and get a HEART! Let's email this dumb town council about this and let them hear from all of us who love animals, so they can keep this bunny!! SO WRONG.....
August 11 2012 at 6:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyanother typical case of government butting in where they don't belong, go pick on drug dealers that aren't paying you off or something!
August 11 2012 at 6:29 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySuch total BS....apparently that town doesn't know what a problem is.....tell them to concern themselves with meth houses, counseling centers for kids, drop outs, runaways, kids with no homes to go to, etc.....such nonsense.....there are so many truly needy situations...out there...its hard to sit and listen to this group of whiners go on about a Flemish Giant rabbit.....as long as these folks have that rabbit in a secured area and he is well taken care of and loved then where the "*" is the problem?????
August 11 2012 at 6:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have a cat, not a rabbit, but if the town tried to take him away, they better bring SWAT and the coroner. The government has no right to interfere unless the animal poses a risk to others.

August 11 2012 at 4:13 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat did the bunny get out and started terrorizing the city, did some hungry town mayor get whiff of rabbit and wants to cook Sandy? This whole thing smells of nosy neighbors who should mind their own business. Good luck to the Lidskys hope you get to keep Sandy.
