It was an emotional day for Diego the dog and Logan Black. According to the San Antonio Express-News, the Iraq veteran and his old bomb-sniffing dog were reunited after five years.
Diego recently retired after being used as a training aid for new military dog handlers. When Black found out Diego was no longer working, he was more that happy to adopt the dog. The two spent a yearlong deployment with each other, even experiencing a roadside bomb blast together in Fallujah.

SO HAPPY TOGETHER
When Diego was reunited with Black, he sniffed around for a few minutes until he realized that it was his former handler. When he did, Diego began to jump around excitedly and, of course, wag his tail uncontrollably.

CANINE CAMPAIGN
"I feel awesome. For a long time, I thought this was never going to happen," said Black. Black was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Black wanted nothing more than to find his former companion. In June, he created a Facebook page titled "Bring Diego Home," attracting the attention of the media.

HAPPY ENDINGS
Approximately 400 dogs are retired each year by the Department of Defense, but not all of them are taken in by their former handlers. "I like to think every adoption is a happy ending, but it's good to see a dog returned to its handler," said Tech. Sgt. Joseph Null, who runs the adoption program for the 341st Training Squadron.

LAP OF LUXURY
Black promises to bathe Diego in love and to give him a life of pure luxury. "With Diego, that bond is there," Black said. "Your life depends on him, and his life depends on you."

It's called unconditional love. Pets were put here for a reason. It's been proven that they reduce stress and give people a reason to live. I'd never be without a dog.

April 29 2013 at 8:47 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf you have never "owned" a dog or cat or hamster. or bird or any other pet or whatever dogs provide a most unusual, satisfying experience and you can't help but love them but never as much as they are devoted to their human companions. Most dogs never out live their human pals. Their loss is always emotionally traumatic.

More proof that a dog, not a stinkin cat, is man's best friend.
