Squirrel Gets Head Lodged in a Manhole Cover

The police in Isernhagen, Germany recently received an unusual phone call from a distressed motorist. According to the (U.K.) Daily Mail, an ambitious squirrel got its head stuck in a manhole cover. The motorist was worried that the jammed rodent would soon be roadkill if it wasn't rescued.

When the police arrived at the scene, they immediately began to try and remove the squirrel. Although it seemed like an easy feat, it was much more trouble than they had anticipated. After trying to pull the squirrel free, then lifting the drain cover and trying to push it out, the animal's head remained lodged in the hole. Finally, a nearby woman brought a bottle of olive oil to the scene. The officers rubbed it around the squirrel's neck and body, and after 15 minutes of tugging, the squirrel was set free.

Although the squirrel immediately darted into a garden and up a tree, we're sure it was extremely appreciative to the police, the motorist who called and the woman whose olive oil it borrowed. What a rascal!

All of these people did something extraordinary. Why you ask? Well...because they don't hand out medals or awards for rescuing animals. There only reward is the satisfaction of knowing that what they did came from the heart and that this little creature will live to see another day. I know there is a special place in heaven for people so kind.

A lot of people would intentionally run over that poor little squirrel..... I am glad the motorist stopped... I hope that squirrel does not try that stunt again.
