Tierpark Berlin Zoo recently welcomed a pair of black panthers named Remaong and Ferra. Their parents, Bromo and Angie, were brought to the zoo specifically to breed. According to the Berlin zoo, Bromo and Angie are doing an exceptional job parenting the pair. The cubs are being introduced to the public now. Let's meet them.
-
THANKS MOM AND DAD
Bromo and Angie's relationship is a rare exception. It's not common for two panthers to get along as a couple so well.
-
MAIN ATTRACTION
With their long whiskers, big paws and beautiful green eyes, there is no doubt that Remaong and Ferra will be the main attraction of the zoo.
-
SMALL, BUT FIERCE
They make look small now, but these baby panthers will grow up to be two of the jungle's fiercest predators.
-
BEST DAD BROMO
It isn't very typical for a male panther to take care of his children, but Bromo has exhibited great care and responsibility for the youngsters.
-
BASKET HAVEN
It took a while for the cubs to leave the comfort of their basket.
-
EYES WIDE SHUT
Fun fact: Black panther clubs are born with their eyes closed. They do not open them until 10 days after birth.
-
HEAR ME ROAR
Showing her tough side, Ferra shines her teeth to the public.
-
MOTHER MAY I...
The baby panthers will not be fully independent of their mother until the age of 2.
-
ZOO INSPECTION
One of the panthers observes its surroundings. They're still getting to know their new home.
-
WHISKER WISDOM
A panther's whiskers help them get a sense of their surroundings by touch. They can also help detect changes in air currents moving around objects, so the panther can sense where unseen objects are.
-
GROWING UP
Typically, wild panthers live to be about 12 years old. In captivity, they could see 20 years of age.
-
TIERPARK BERLIN ZOO
We wish we could go visit the twins. If you find yourself in Berlin soon, find out how you can see Remaong and Ferra.
