STAY COOL 

This orangutan at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo has a tip for staying cool in the summer: wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Obviously. 

KITTEN SURVIVOR 

This kitten survived an ocean voyage from Shanghai to Los Angeles locked in a shipping container without food or water. It is now under the care of Los Angeles County animal-control officers.

THE AMERICAN BISON 

Denver Zoo is working to pass the National Bison Legacy Act, which would designate the American bison as the National Mammal of the United States. Learn more. 

SUNSCREEN PUP PROTECTION 

Harvey the English Bulldog protects himself from the sun with a new line of sunblock wipes for dogs. Research has proven that dogs are just as likely to get skin cancer as humans, so a company has developed canine-friendly sunblocks to combat UV rays. 

TOUR DE FRANCE FAN 

A goat sports a polka-dot hat during the 226 km and 12th stage of the 2012 Tour de France cycling race in Saint-Jean-de-Maurieene.

A baby howler monkey named Geronimo climbs on top of a branch at a zoo in Cologne, Germany.

Two newborn red vari lemurs get used to their new home at a zoo in Wuppertal, Germany.

32 dogs were rescued from a home in La Puente, Calif. They are all in good condition and are waiting to be adopted.

PUP PROTECTION

Los Angeles Police Officer Jim Cherrette holds a temperature record stick to demonstrate how hot a closed car can get. More calls are coming in about overheated dogs, but officials say that's a good thing, because more people are aware of the problem and calling before it's too late.

Two pelicans recently were rescued by Lebanese fisherman. One of them can no longer fly after she was shot in the wing by a hunter while flying.

SEA LION SQUEAL 

He may look full-grown, but this sea lion is only a few days old. 

LITTLE LEOPARD 

Argoun, a 3-month-old Amur leopard is pictured during its first time out at the zoo in Mulhouse, France. There are only about 50 Amur leopards in nature around the world.

SNOWY SWEETIES

Two recently born snowy owls nibble on each another in their enclosure. It's just another way to say, "I love you," right? 

CELEBRITY CAT SIGHTING

The Osbournes' cat, Freya, was spotted sitting pretty on Downing Street in London. 

CROWNED CHICK 

Victoria crowned pigeon pair Violet and Ozzy hatched a healthy chick for the first time at Colchester Zoo.

LEMUR MOUSE MANIA 

An adorable set of mouse lemur triplets were born recently at the Duke Lemur Center. Their proud mother, Oleander, is a 4-year old mouse lemur. 

SEA LION SPRINKLES 

20-year-old male sea lion Pucchi sprays water over himself and the street below him in an attempt to cool down from the 86-degree heat at the Shinagawa Aqua Stadium in Tokyo. 

PRINCE OR FROG? 

Prince Charles poses with an Ecuadorian stream tree frog, an endangered species discovered in the rainforests of Ecuador named after him, in honor of the Prince's support of conservation and environmental campaigns. We see the resemblance. Sort of. 

RUN RABBIT RUN

Mikado the rabbit from Zeulenroda, Germany clears an obstacle during the Kaninhop championship in Jena, Germany. There were at least 60 rabbit participants competing in the event.

JUST CHILL 

A hippopotamus named Cindy opens wide to welcome a water hose at the Philadelphia Zoo. The animals at the zoo are feeling the temperatures continue to rise. Stay cool, Cindy! 

POLAR BEAR'S POOL

Gus takes a dip at Central Park Zoo in Manhattan as the city's temperatures hit 100 degrees. 

GROOMING DAY 

Wild horses are rounded up in the hills on the eve of the Shearing of the Beasts festival in Sabucedo, Spain. During the more than 400-year-old festival, wild horses are rounded up to have their manes and tails sheared.

Dublin Zoo's new 17-year-old Asian bull elephant Upali is welcomed by 5-year-old calf Asha to the Dublin Zoo. This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

IT'S LIKE A HEATWAVE 

A sun bear deals with triple-digit temperatures at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Neb. over the weekend. Someone get this guy a frozen watermelon! 

BABY MULE DEER 

A mother mule deer recently welcomed her two baby boys to the Zoo Sauvage in France. According to zookeepers, she was not properly taking care of them, so the calves had to be removed and fed by the veterinary clinic.

NEW FEATHERED FRIENDS  

A red-legged seriema couple hatched their fourth and fifth chicks at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. 

WET KOALA 

Looks like someone forgot his umbrella during Houston's rainstorms. He does not look happy about it!

PYGMY MARMOSET PIGGYBACK RIDE 

Perth Zoo's pygmy marmoset, Mia, gave birth to twins recently. The babies are spending most of their time riding around on the back of their mom, their dad or one of their older siblings. They’re camouflaged well, so you’ll have to look carefully to see where the other one is! 

HOLD ON TIGHT! 

A baby bbuffy-headed capuchin grabs hold of his mother tightly as he explores his new enclosure at the Colchester Zoo. 

RUNNING OF THE BULLS 

Participants in the San Fermin festival run from Cebada Gago bulls in Pamplona. The festival is a symbol of Spanish culture that attracts thousands of tourists to watch the bull runs despite heavy condemnation from animal rights groups.
