Man Attempts to Sell Baby Shark on NYC Subway
the daily dish
New York City's subway system is known as a magnet for all kinds of critters and crazy behavior, but this is taking things one step beyond. According to Gothamist, a man boarded a J train at 1 a.m carrying a cooler with a baby shark in it. Then he tried selling the small shark to passengers.
Gothamist was tipped off about the story by one of the train's other passengers. The informant said the man was very enthusiastic with his sales pitch, and the seller claimed he caught the sea creature in Coney Island after it bit his behind. Once the man began displaying the shark, the tipster said that he tried to inform the seller that sharks cannot live long outside of water. The man was supposedly asking $100 for the shark, but didn't find an interested buyer.

New York State Director of the Humane Society Patrick Kwan told Gothamist that the shark appeared to be an adolescent dogfish shark. Kwan also expressed concern over the animal's well-being, calling the seller "cruel and inhumane." The director wants all subway riders to know that selling any animals on the subway is highly illegal, and that a police officer, train operator or MTA employee should be notified of the activity right away.
