RARE ALBINO HEDGEHOGS 

Two rare albino hedgehogs were photographed in a pet shop in Johannesburg, South Africa. The nocturnal animals will be part of the World of Cats, Dogs and Pet Exhibition at the end of the month.

A WHALE OF A TALE 

A blue whale is spotted in the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary in California. Blue whales, the world's largest animal, have been seen in droves off the Northern California coast. 

MEERKAT MEDITATION 

A meerkat sits peacefully among a group of fellow meerkats at a zoo in Duisburg, Germany. 

TIGER CUB CUTIES 

Two Amur tiger cubs born at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Powell, Ohio are the first ever born at the zoo. Currently, they are in intensive care as one regains strength following poor nursing.

TAPIR TWOSOME

A newborn tapir snuggles up to its mother on its first walk in the outdoor enclosure at a zoo in Germany. 

WELCOME, BABY MOSI! 

Binder Park Zoo proudly welcomes baby Mosi the giraffe. The most excited of all the giraffes is Kay, Mosi's mother.

Happy sweet 16 to Munda the Prehensile Tailed Skink at the Smithsonian National Zoo.

A black-footed ferret pup looks around in his enclosure at the Smithsonian Zoo. 

HAPPY WORLD ZOONOSES DAY 

A woman gets her dog vaccinated on World Zoonoses Day in Hyderabad, India. Indian Immunologicals Ltd. (IIL), the largest veterinary biological company in the country, organized a large-scale, free rabies vaccination camp for pet and stray dogs on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day. A zoonosis is a disease that is transmitted from animals to humans.

POSSUM TRIPLETS 

Three ringtail possums were recently born in a little town in Brisbane, Australia. Their birth is a rare occurrence as these animals are usually born in pairs. The triplets were found orphaned in the front yard of a home.

JUICE BOX BREAK 

A monkey cools down by sipping on a carton of juice given to him by a shop owner due to the hot weather in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon.

WATERMELON MUNCHER 

A Galapagos tortoise at the San Diego Zoo celebrates the Fourth of July with a juicy, ripe watermelon. 

WELCOME, BABY PANDA! 

In this image made from video released by the Ueno Zoological Gardens, 7-year-old female giant panda Shin Shin lays in her cage after giving birth to a baby (unseen) at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo on Thursday. It was the first time in 24 years that a panda has been born at that zoo.

A ROYAL VISIT 

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, pets a dog during a visit to a veterinary clinic in St Mary's, England. Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla are on a three day trip to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. 

LOST DOG FOUND ON TWITTER

When Patch hopped aboard the train to Dublin all by his lonesome, the power of Twitter reunited him with his owner. Irish Rail Tweeted, "Lost Dog!" after the Jack Russell Terrier hopped aboard with morning commuters. Following more than 500 retweets in just 32 minutes, the photo found Patch’s owner, Deirdre Anglin, who Tweeted back to the state railway, "That’s my dog!"

An Asian elephant takes a warm sandshower at the zoo in Krefeld, Germany. It may look dirty, but the sand helps protect the animal's back.

PAMPERED CHICK 

Zoo America's 11-day-old roadrunner chick was pampered with a pedicure today. She is one of a few chicks at the zoo. According to keepers, since they are starting to look very similar to one another, they can identify each by their toenails.

POLAR BEAR FISHERMAN 

Blizzard the polar bear eats a fish while taking a dive around his new aquarium at the Hamburg Zoo. 

JELLYFISH FRIENDS 

A group of Pacific moon jellyfish swim in an aquarium at the Schonbrunn Zoo in Vienna. 

FEATHERED FRIENDS 

A 5-day-old flamingo chick sits below two adults at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, Mass. 

ORPHAN PUP RESCUED

An orphaned gray-wolf pup found wandering on the side of the road in central Idaho has found a new home at Busch Gardens. The 8-week-old male pup nicknamed Boise is slowly being introduced to his new pack mates.

WELCOME, BABY ELEPHANT 

Indianapolis Zoo welcomed the addition of a new African elephant calf. He is adjusting well to his new home.

TOOTHLESS CROC 

Hollande, a toothless crocodile named after the French President Francois Hollande, swims around in his new home at the Kalaweit wildlife sanctuary and rescue center. 

TIGERS FOR TRANSIT 

Juma, one of Australia Zoo's beautiful Sumatran tigers, checks out a new public transport initiative in Queensland. It looks like she likes what she sees!

PARTY ANIMALS

The meerkats over at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Wash. are gearing up for Independence Day. Nothing say "patriotic picnic" more than a nice, juicy watermelon. 

SILVER SPOON DOG 

A greedy Rottweiler named Max was being spoon-fed a strawberry when suddenly, instead of just taking the fruit, he inhaled the utensil, too. Max was brought to the hospital and an x-ray showed that the five-inch spoon was lodged firmly in Max's stomach. He was rushed into surgery and is now recovering. 

FOSTER MOM 

A Shar-Pei named Cleopatra feeds Siberian tiger cub Clyopa in the house of Yekaterina Khodakova. Khodakova's dog has been breastfeeding Clyopa and her sibling Plyusha because their mother refused to feed them. 

SLEEPY SEAL 

A seal serenely sunbathes on an abandoned dinghy in Norfolk, England. According to the photographer who discovered the napper, the sleepy seal caused quite a sensation to passersby at the beach. 

HOME SWEET HOME 

Emma Lepine looks on as her family's horses, Guiness and Otto, greet each other after being reunited to be taken home at the Waldo Canyon Fire emergency large-animal shelter in Colorado Springs. 

PRECIOUS PARROT 

It was a big day for the zoo in in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. An Ararajuba (Golden onure-psittacidae) baby parrot is getting ready to be presented to the public. Rio's zoo will open an animal nursery to treat endangered animals originally from Brazil that were abandoned by their parents.

WATER HOGS 

At the Cincinnati Zoo, this is how the miniature pigs beat the heat. We wish we could run through the sprinklers with these little guys. 

BABY BELUGA IN THE SEA 

Jeff Corwin and the "Ocean Mysteries" crew are visiting the Alaska SeaLife Center to document the team's work with a rescued beluga.

SMILEY SKUNK

A striped hog-nosed skunk, also known as a jaritataca, flashes a smile towards the camera in his enclosure at a zoo in Brazil. 

MONKEY FAIL

Rika the Sumatra orangutan made a prediction in the UEFA Euro Final 2012 match between Spain and Italy at Bintan Zoo. When given bananas placed above the Spanish and Italian flags, Rika chose the bananas representing Italy. Unfortunately for Rika, she was wrong. Spain won the Euro 2012 title.
