According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, 26-year-old John Molar III of New Jersey is facing 30 counts of animal cruelty after the veterinary staff at the Good Hope Animal Hospital discovered 30 emaciated cats and newborn kittens crammed in the back of his Jeep.
Molnar had brought his Jeep to his neighborhood Pep Boys for servicing. When mechanics saw the animals, they sent him and his vehicle to the animal hospital. Molnar waited in the air-conditioned room while his cats were sitting in 90-degree heat.

When Molnar checked in with Holly Dupont at the Good Hope Animal Hospital, he told her he had a "couple of cats." She continued to press Molnar and he finally confessed he had "about 20." This prompted Dupont to head to Pep Boys to see for herself.
When Dupont opened the hatch of the Jeep, she saw cats piled on top of one another in a wire dog crate. In addition, there was a small crate with a mother cat, her three newborns and five more young cats. "They looked near death," said Dupont.
Molnar told the police that he was transporting the cats to Texas for someone else. Finally, he confessed that the cats were actually his and that he was moving. He was forced to relinquish the cats to the vet hospital.

Fortunately, all the cats survived. Those suffering from upper respiratory problems began recovering quickly after receiving treatment and food.
Six of the cats have already been adopted, while two of the others will live in the feral colony Dupont manages. Anyone interested in adopting or donating should call Good Hope at 717-766-5535.
