Let Fireflies Fly
While catching fireflies isn't reserved for just the Fourth of July (we hope you let them go!), it is a seasonal topic that Dr. DeClementi addresses, since some people catch fireflies and try to feed them to pet lizards. "Feed them a few and bearded and dragon lizards can die," she warns. To be safe, just leave the fireflies outside, and allow them to put on their own peaceful fireworks show for the Fourth.

I have a rescue English Springer Spaniel who is 10 years now. In his early years he ran off on 4th July. Thank God he was found and returned home. Thunder Storms are just as bad. When the neighbors shoot of fire crackers he get extremely upset. I don't like medicating him I sit with him and try comforting him. I hate to leave him when he gets. this way. He had a beagle companion who since passed who kept company he has his other pal Miss Kitty who stays by his side. The enjoyment of Fireworks is beautiful, but if we own pets we should be thoughtful of them as well.
July 04 2012 at 3:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHi, I loved fireworks as a kid, we did them on my Grandmother's farm in a place far away from any animals. I also took my kids to displays at lakes without communities close by and afterwards my kids could set off their own fireworks near the lake. BUT for the last 7 yrs I have HATED fireworks, particularly those set off in town in crowded neighborhoods where they ARE illegal. 7 yrs ago we went to watch a display and a neighbor was left to overlook our house and dogs. We had one Scottie Mix-about the size of a Cocker Spaniel who was Deathly afraid of fireworks. Seems he dug furiously under a fence when hearing the fireworks being set off in our neighborhood them came back under our fence and died of a heart attack the vet said. He was found on the grave of an older dog we had that "raised" him from a pup although not his real Mother. He was ONLY 4 yrs old but the vet said they can get so worked up etc. that they CAN and some DO have a heart attack even if in good health. The house sitter let him out to relieve himself and then noticed he did not quickly return, it was very late, been quiet a while and someone else let out a barrage of illegal fireworks. So she did not hear them until he was out for a while. She tried calling him in and imagine her surprise when she found his lifeless body on the old dogs grave! I wish a thousand times I would have been there but don't know if I would not have done the same since he was not a dog usually kept in the house. So in remembrance of "Jethro" our beloved 4 year old Scotty Mutt mix-IF you live in a neighborhood or have any animals close by PLEASE don't set off fireworks in it, not only can the pets DIE from fright while their owners perhaps are gone or not, but there is ALWAYS the fire danger from houses being so close together and or dry conditions. I have seen that happen before with "fountains" I NOW understand states that outlaw them all together. They try sensible rules that MANY ignore and don't think apply to them. And yes I had kids who enjoyed them etc. but they enjoyed our beloved Jethro MUCH MORE! Another lover of ALL animals.

July 04 2012 at 12:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have a rescued dog (Border Collie mix ... Ruby) she is very skittish in most situations and even a good thunder storm results in crating and a dose of Ace. Its not fun to have to drug your animal but it is one of the responsible things to do for them if they are that uncomfortable.
Cotton in their ears, and Doggie and Kitty downers, may help. Still loving cuddles are always helpful, for both you and your Babies.

July 04 2012 at 11:18 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWe had a small dog when I was growing up that was very upset when it came to fireworks and we all took turns trying to comfort her during the fireworks, but it's only once of year and you can't think they should not have fireworks for the 4th of July.

July 04 2012 at 10:45 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOh sure as per usual, it's all about the dogs and cats, PLEASE DOES ANYONE ever think about livestock owners and What our Animals go through?? NO!!!!! So what are we supposed to do, bring our horses, goats, cattle ect... in the house??? Or put them in a barn so they can REALLY freak out as fireworks hit it, possibly catching it on fire?? So sick of the Liberal media who ONLY care about City folk! But then we just supply EVERYTHING you use in the REAL WORLD, right here on the farm!

As for older guys, dating younger women simply makes them feel younger. ~~~AgeDater_℃om ~~~ is a focused dating site for younger women dating older men. We have one dog and she is scared of fireworks. However, we did not know that they could scare all dogs, we just thought our dog had a weird thing for fireworks.
