Dog Shot in the Face While Protecting Family
Zeus, a 5-year-old Doberman Pinscher, is recovering from surgery after being shot in the face while protecting his family, WDSU-TV reports.
According to his owner, Henry McCaskill, Zeus began barking at the back door of their home. McCaskill let Zeus out and the dog ran to the back of the house, apparently to thwart an attempted home invasion. Before McCaskill could see what was going on, he heard a gunshot.
The would-be intruder shot Zeus in the face, and while the dog miraculously survived, the bullet broke his jaw and several teeth, excited through his neck and lodged in his shoulder. A veterinarian removed the bullet Wednesday.
McCaskill told WVUE-TV that he is extremely grateful Zeus survived, but the medical expenses have become a burden for the family.

Thankfully, the Humane Society of Louisiana decided to help the McCaskills by setting up the "Zeus Medical Fund." All donations will go to family to help with the costs of Zeus' surgery and his care during recovery. The non-profit expects those fees will run up to $3,500, roughly how much the McCaskills need.
If you wish to donate, mail checks to the Humane Society of Louisiana, P.O. Box 740321, New Orleans, LA 70174. Make sure you write "Zeus Medical Fund" in the check memo space.
You can also donate online at www.humanela.org or over the phone at 1-888-6-Humane.

July 06 2012 at 6:26 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDo you work in healthcare? Do you know ANYTHING about healthcare?
Let me guess...
You got hurt at work due to your own carelessness & are now angry at the world b/c no healthcare professional will back your story that you are too disabled to work b/c you stubbed your toe & your employer isn't going to pay you lots of money every month to sit on your butt watching Maury.
NEWSFLASH, J!!! Pharmaceutical companies are no longer allowed to wine/dine/woo physicians with all expense paid trips to the islands. They can't even give out pens.
So, instead of bashing healthcare, why don't you get off of your lazy rear and go educate yourself.
zeus is a hero...

Best dogs in the world! Although pit-bulls come in close second (I wish I could have another dog as I would rescue a pit).

And the job is easy for the most part. Doctors see patients for less than 10 mins each and rely on medications to solve the problems of the patient. Many times doctors don't take time to identify problems and mistakes are made. When this happens, they deserve to pay out via the court system and possibly face criminal charges. Also, if someone is going into the profession for money, they need their head examined (by a doctor who gives a damn) because the profession should be reserved for those who want to put patients first. I liken it to a minister of faith . . . if you're in it for the money, you miss the point entirely. The fact that you have no pension speaks to your lack of retirement planning. Nobody has pensions anymore. You should have done like everyone else . . . invested money in the stock market so bankers could rob it.

How many plumbers, electricians, and mechanics are unemployed? Also, doctors are in bed with drug companies. They go on trips, receive money to at speaking events for the drug and mercilessly push harmful medications on trusting testees, err patients, just to line their pockets. The once noble profession is a mockery.
