    How is adopting a pet different than purchasing one from a breeder or store?

    People think there are no purebred dogs [at shelters], but that’s not true. About 20 percent of these animals are purebred because they were rescued from puppy mills or were relinquished. These animals really do appreciate a second chance. We want to give more of them that. That's what adoption allows you to do.
