PUPPY PILOT
Jeff Bennett, of Big Pine Key, Fla., a volunteer pilot for the non-profit charity Pilots N Paws, holds his 1,000th rescued animal near his airplane in Greenville, Ala. Bennett picked up 23 dogs that were scheduled to be euthanized, then flew them back to Florida, where they will be put up for adoption.

Five African-spurred tortoises, also known as sulcata tortoises, enjoy time on the grass at SeaWorld San Diego. The adult, named Buster, is about 20 years old, and the young ones are just under a year old. Sulcata tortoises are native to northern Africa and can live to be 100 years old.
