About: Since its inception in 1976, Therapy Dogs International has over 24,000 registered dog/handler teams. These animals and their volunteers spend time visiting nursing homes, hospitals and other institutions wherever therapy dogs are needed. The use of therapy dogs has resulted in countless benefits. Elderly people are better able to cope with daily activities and children tend to be more self-reliant and sociable. Therapy dogs are being increasingly more prominent in institutions, from hospitals to elementary schools.
