Last November, Nicole Dempster was sued by Della Macdonald, who had found, cared and returned her wandering lost cat. After Smudge wandered off, Macdonald found her and took care of her for six months. Then Smudge wandered off again and was found by her rightful owner, Dempster. When Dempster tried to find who had taken care of Smudge to thank them, Macdonald contacted the police. She wanted the Stornoway Sheriff Court to declare her the cat's owner or award her compensation for caring for Smudge. Macdonald planed to cite her pet dog, Hamish, claiming he was pining for his absent friend. Sadly, Hamish died in February, and Macdonald dropped the custody battle. Smudge is now back at home with her original owner. (Daily Record)
