Dog Found Nearly Starved to Death in Pennsylvania Homethe daily dish
After being nearly starved to death, Precious the Pit Bull Terrier mix is finally getting the kind treatment she deserves. According to WPVI-TV, the dog was found wasting away in the basement of a Pennsylvania home.
Precious was discovered by visiting maintenance workers who at first thought the dog was the remains of an animal. Once they realized Precious was alive, they had her moved to an animal shelter.

The Delaware County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is now caring for Precious. The facility said for a dog her size, Precious should weigh around 50 pounds, but she currently weighs only 17 pounds. Due to this low weight, Precious cannot walk, bark or raise her head. But Justina Calgiano of the SPCA told WPVI she believes the dog has the spirit to pull through.
Right now, Precious is fed a handful of food every two hours and is also given a cup of water via syringe. Her around-the-clock care also calls for Precious to be flipped over every four hours to prevent bed sores.

The SPCA cited Precious' former owner with animal cruelty. Neighbors of the man say that Precious' mother, Angel, died in similar way to how Precious was found. Having treated several severely starved dogs successfully, the SPCA is hopeful that they will be able to save Precious and find her a loving home.
