In the south copperheads are a bigger danger than any listed here. They love ground cover of any kind to keep cool, the like dead leaves etc. that their color blends in well for hiding and of course they are poisonous and your dog will need an antivirus from your vet in many cases to survive which can be very expensive. Snake bites aren't often apparent immediately but the longer gone unnoticed the more skin/tissue damage done than often can't be repaired. If you notice you dog having been bit and not close to a vet. Cover the area in mud and get to the vet asap. Bites normally aren't fatal if quick actions are taken.
Keep your yards clean, of dead leaves, ground growing ivy etc, and grass cut short.
A copperhead gives no warning and the smaller the snake the worse the bite. For dogs the bite 9 times out of 10 will be on the nose area. On people the ankle area.

It's important for owners to monitor their pets when they're outside, especially if they have a garden in an area that's accessible to pets. Many, many plants (indoor and outdoor) that are toxic to dogs and cats. It doesn't even get into the chemicals, fertilizers, mulch, and other things people put on their grass and plants. This is by means a complete listing. Even some vegetables, fruits, and herbs are dangerous, some cooked and some raw.

Hey, Slick... If you can't even read an article about dangers to pets without bringing up politics, then I sincerely feel sorry for you. Might I suggest leaving this website, turning off your computer, and going outside. If that's not feasible, there is therapy.

Dogs can be trained to eat dog food, and nothing else. Cats can't be trained and so we have to let them eat toxic plants and become ill. They sometimes learn from their sicknesses to avoid certain plants.
