Chicago Aquarium's Baby Dolphin Makes Its Debut
the daily dish
Breaking baby animal news! Chicago's Shedd Aquarium celebrated the birth of a male Pacific white-sided dolphin two weeks ago. The dolphin calf and his mother, Piquet, made their debut swim, showing off their adorableness to the world. The pair will not be on exhibit for a few more weeks while Piquet nurses her son and gets him fully prepared for the show. We wish them both the best!

They look happy but in all reality, they are depressEd and miserable. there might have been a chance at happiness for the captive born dolphins that have never experienced the ocean, but they compare their intelligence to humans. So this is where we need to put ourselves in their shoes...how would you feel? We exploit other species on the planet believing we are superior but in all reality, one life is no more or less than another life. Its time we start showing respect for life in general because each species is needed in the delicate ecosystem we have here for survival of all

But chances are his life wont be very long because captive dolphins and orcas in captivity are lucky if they live half their normal lifespan. Many become blind because of the amount of chemicals in their water. They are pumped full of antidepressants and antibiotics on a daily basis to keep them alive. They perform 3+ shows a day, 365 days a week with no chance of retirement. The only way to escape it is death.

He/She will never know the wide open ocean it was meant to travel and prosper in. Instead it is destined to live out it's life confined, in a small, warm, shallow pool, stared at and attempted to be petted by thousands of people. We should be ASHAMED!!!!
