The pygmy goat is a small domestic goat breed. Recently, they have become more popular as pets. They make great companions because they are adaptable to most climates, and they can get along with other pets like dogs or cats. Pygmy goats are sweet, playful and can easily grow bonds with their owners. However, owning a pygmy goat can be a lot of work. They need proper fencing, grooming and diet. We have the facts you need to know.

    PYGMY GOATS AS PETS

The pygmy goat originated in Africa. However, since the 1950s, they have become popular pets in households all over the world. (Aquatic Community)

    TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE

Pygmy goats are very sociable and good-natured animals. Their temperament is playful and gentle, making them ideal pets for children. They are curious and do not like to be alone. Those interested in owning a pygmy goat should strongly consider adopting more than one so they don't get lonely. (Buzzle)

    POWERFUL PYGMYS

Pygmy goats are very physically capable. They can climb, run, crawl under fences, and some can even jump over five feet. Also, these little goats can stand on their back legs to reach branches and shrubs. (Goat World)

    PYGMY PEDICURE

Every six to eight weeks, goats need to have their hooves trimmed. This prevents hoof rot and lameness. Overgrown hooves can be very uncomfortable for goats, so it's important to stay on top of trims. (Amber Waves Pygmy Goats)

    FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Ever heard the myth that goats will eat anything? That is false. Goats tend to be very fussy when it comes to their diet. Most of the time, they eat green grass, plants or grains. They enjoy spending large amounts of time grazing in pastures and eating at their leisure. (Almanac)

    FUN SIZED

Pygmy goats are bred small and compact. Their heads, necks and legs are short in relation to body length. They are relatively muscular animals, and their proportions are generally appropriate for their small size. Females usually weigh 50 to 75 pounds, while males weigh 60 to 85 pounds. (Pygmy Goat)

    ALWAYS PREPARED

    GOAT GROOMIN'

It is important to have your goat properly groomed every so often. Inexpensive brushes can be found at your local feed store. Goats do enjoy being groomed, especially in the spring when they shed their winter coats. (Homepage)
