Hero Dog Saves Family from House Fire in Chicago
A family in Plainfield, Ill. was saved by an unusual--and furry--fire alarm: their dog. According to the WGN-TV, Payton the dog woke his family after detecting a blaze in their home.
The fire broke out in the family's basement during the night while everyone was sleeping. Payton detected the fire and roused the homeowner's young son, who promptly alerted the rest of the family.

A fire crew arrived on the scene soon after to put out the large blaze. Fire Department Deputy Chief Jon K. Stratton said that fire was so powerful due to strong winds in the area. Overall, the blaze caused about $400,000 in damages, but thanks to Payton no priceless lives were lost.
