Animals come in all shapes and sizes, some much bigger than others. While there is often a runt of the litter, occasionally there is a giant too. Check out some of the most super-sized animals around.
CLAUDE THE CRAB
Holy crab! That is one large crustacean. Claude weighs 15 pounds and could've made 160 crab cakes. Luckily, the fisherman who caught him decided to sell the crab to a British aquarium instead of a Red Lobster.

GIANT GEORGE
George takes the term Great Dane to whole new heights. The canine is officially the tallest dog in the world, measuring 4 feet tall (7 feet on his hind legs). Surprisingly, his owner swears that George was the runt of his litter. They must have given him some big love.
-
POE THE HORSE
It isn't official yet, but 10-feet-tall Poe's owner, Shereen Thompson, is claiming that he is the tallest horse around. Poe is a Clydesdale, who matches his large size with a big diet. The equine chows down on two full bales of hay and 75 gallons of water a day, so think twice before you invite him to dinner. (Daily Mail)

GOLIATH FROGS
This amphibian easily has his other frog cousins beat. The goliath grog is the biggest species of frog, at about a foot long and seven pounds when fully grown. Those numbers compare with the size of some house cats! (San Diego Zoo)
-
ROCKY THE LOBSTER
Maybe not the deadliest catch, Rocky certainly is the biggest when it comes to lobsters. Caught off the coast of Maine, the massively clawed big boy weighed in at 27 pounds. Instead of dumping Rocky into a pot, aquarium workers were nice enough to release him back into the sea. (New York Daily News)

STEWIE THE CAT
Maine coon Stewie doesn't have to try very hard to stand tall. This feline holds the records for longest domestic cat and longest tail on a domestic cat. Stewie measures 48.5 inches with 16.34 of that being big, fluffy tail. Tragically, Stewie recently was diagnosed with cancer, but is using all four feet of his strength to fight it. (Today)

HUFF PUFF THE HEDGEHOG
When Huff Puff was brought to a hedgehog rescue, she decided to enjoy her new accommodations to the fullest extent. The roly-poly animal quickly gained weight, ballooning to four pounds, almost four times bigger than the normal weight for a hedgehog. Employees at the rescue have now adjusted Huff Puff's diet, so she won't be football-sized for much longer. (Telegraph)

DARIUS THE RABBIT
Bunny lover Annette Edwards knows how to pick 'em! Darius is the fourth rabbit she's owned that has earned the title of "World's Longest Rabbit." New champion Darius is 4 feet, 3 inches and weighs 50 pounds. Plus, he could still continue to grow! (Today)

NORM THE PIG
Named after the classic "Cheers" character, Norm the pig had the same laid-back attitude. Unfortunately, Norm died in 2009, but not before clinching the title of biggest pig. The swine tipped the scales at 1,600 pounds and was eight feet long. That'll do, pig! (The Post Standard)
-
CASSIUS CLAY THE CROCODILE
At 18 feet and just under a ton, Cassius Clay the crocodile is a true heavyweight. No wonder he was given Muhammad Ali's original name. Residing in Australia, the animal held the title of largest crocodile in captivity, but was recently beaten out by another behemoth, Lolong. Can't win them all, Cassius. (Strait Times)
-
FLUFFY THE PYTHON
This python was the pride of the Columbus Zoo, not only because of her sweet demeanor, but also because Fluffy was a record holder. The reptile is the longest snake in the world at 24 feet and 300 pounds. Sadly, Fluffy passed away in 2010 due to a tumor, but she still holds onto her record. (CNN)
-
CHILLI THE COW
Standing at 6 feet, 6 inches, Chilli the cow is a true gentle giant. He spends his days gnawing on grass and enjoying quality time with his farm friends. Even though he is the size of a small elephant, his owners swear Chilli just grew up that way and it has nothing to do with his diet. (Daily Mail)

I like the way the girl poses with the "giant crab" by holding it at arms length close to the camera - or she has a very tiny head with a small brain cavity.....

August 15 2012 at 9:23 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI was taught a cow is always female and the bull is the male. I'd hate to think what would happen if they said go milk the cow and what you approach is the bull! Noooo-- cow=female, bull=male, species =bovine. And at my age I can't change the way I see it!
