Prince Harry the Pygmy Hippo Dies
Only days after losing famous 39-pound shelter cat Meow, the animal world is saddened by another tragic death. According to The (U.K.) Daily Mail, Prince Harry the pygmy hippo has died.
Born in March at the Cango Wildlife Ranch in South Africa, Prince Harry quickly caught the world's attention with his precious face and heart-warming story. After being rejected by his mother, the extremely rare animal was hand-raised by the ranch's staff.
Everything seemed to be going well for the tiny hippo who had previously survived against the odds, until he underwent surgery for a hernia. Towards the end of the operation, Prince Harry went into respiratory arrest and then heart failure. Doctors attempted to resuscitate Harry, but the beloved animal died on the operating table.

I agree with everyone who feels that this was probably not an urgent surgery and could have been held off till he was at a better stage to cope with a surgery..

May 10 2012 at 8:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIts very likely the vets werent experienced enough with this rare species to do this surgery and he died of anesthesia error, poor understand of the physiology or even worse, poor placement of the respiratory tubing. This is why he shouldbe been shipped off to a proper facility in the States or Europe. Poor baby. No one to look out for him. Let this be a lesson to all of us entering the halls of healing.
