Pit Bull Takes Hit from Train to Save Owner
the daily dish
A hero dog to the core, Lilly the Pit Bull proved how far a canine's love can go. According to KSDK, Lilly was hit by an oncoming train in Boston, Mass. while protecting and trying to move her unconscious owner stuck on the tracks.
The train's engineer, who attempted to stop the engine after spying the dog, called emergency services immediately after the collison. When paramedics arrived, they were amazed to find Lilly's owner, Christine Spain, unharmed. Lilly was not so lucky. The dedicated dog had serious injuries to her pelvis and right foot, and was rushed from the scene to a nearby emergency animal hospital.
Spain's son, Boston Police Officer David Lanteigne, who adopted the 8-year-old dog for his Spain several years ago, frantically joined Lilly's side. Lanteigne said that Lilly transformed his mother's life, providing her with love and care. The hero pet has also helped Spain, who suffers from alcoholism, to drastically cut down on her drinking.

Doctors say that the next few months of recovery will be tough on Lilly, but the Pit Bull should be able to regain her ability to walk. After everything the dog has done for him and his family, Lanteigne vows to be there every step of the way to make Lilly's healing process as comfortable as possible.
Lilly has not made an impression only on Lanteigne. Workers at the Angell Animal Medical Center said they had never seen a dog so selfless and brave. The train engineer who discovered Lilly said that she was amazed by how calm and concerned the canine was about Spain, even after her own injury.

Officer Lanteigne later took the surprisingly composed Pit Bull to Angell Animal Medical Center. The center said that once Lilly arrived they instantly went to work, performing several surgeries to help repair the dog's severe injuries. In the end, Lily's front leg was amputated and the canine's pelvis was rebuilt with steel plates.

My weiner dog attacks dogs, usually at the dog park, since I keep him on the leash when out on walks and such, but my pit usually runs after the Weiner when she sees him about to be naughty and pushes him down with her paws. Sadly, my weiner dog is stubborn and now is no longer allowed at the dog park because it is getting ridiculous. My point is the reason Pit Fear is out there is because is most publicized, and many thugs have opted to get them as pets for the wrong reasons...they are no longer pets... but any dog can be turned into a killer, just not all may do so successfully.

I know she is a mix, but to me she shows a lot of the pits traits, love, obedience, and loyalty. My two year old daughter can climb on her, pull her tail, (we try to keep her from doing any of these things) Cinnamon seems to take it in stride and she is very protective of my daughter.

(http://www.ywgrossman.com/photoblog/?p=676) They were always there for the kids. It's the people that make the animal. When I was little I had a red pit bull and she was stolen from my yard, she was my nap buddy! As I got older they started getting a bad rap and my parents said no way. I finally got my pit bull shepherd mix and I love him to pieces. We also got a pitbull for my grandpa's shop. She is amazing and just a big sweetheart. My neighbor has a boxer pit mix and he is just and amazing dog! I have grown up around "dangerous breeds" my whole life. German shepherds, rottweilers, and pits and guess what?!? They have been nothing but nice to the people they meet and come across. My dog is very protective of me when it comes to other dogs charging or running at me and he doesn't know them but he just stands his ground. He is my best friend. People need to realize that the breed isn't bad. It all has to do with how they are raised. A pits jaw is wide and can't clamp on like a German shepherd, rottweiler, or even these little breeds. A bite from small dogs can sometimes be worse than a big dog because larger dogs generally know when to stop. I wouldn't change my big guys for the world. I loved my Westie and my Shiatsu but nothing compares to my pits and my so called "dangerous breeds" they have all loves the kids and been good with everyone. My little dogs, they are a different story.

May 13 2012 at 2:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replythere is one documented story i read where a pit bull save a 7 year old girl from an attacking german shepard. the little girl was his best friend and she was on her way to school as usual. their yard was bounded by a 6 foot wooden fence that had always kept the pit bull inside.
the german shepard was always on a chain because he would attack people. but on this day he broke the chain and went straight after the girl. the pit bull heard what happened and cleared the fence with one leap. then it was a race to the girl. he hit the german shepard just feet in front of the girl who was frozen with fear. witnesses said that the shepard was killed almost instantly.
pit bulls don't deserve the bad press they get. they are a natural human companion. and they are naturally friendly to people. even their aggressiveness to other dogs is exaggerated. they have big hearts in more ways than one...
II have at pitbull its not full blood its mixed with a boxer , well she happends to be very shy and scared we got her at 4moths but even tho she is scared of me she loves my little sister as soon as she heres herebshe gets soooo happy but that's my problem with her she only likes my sister andshes my dog , :(
May 11 2012 at 3:11 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat just goes to prove all the pitt bull haters that they are good dogs ! a DOG IS ONLY WHAT THE OWNER MAKES HIM, if u take a living creature and love him and make sure to never neglect or abuse that creature , that creature will be a normal functioning lovable guy! But if u r cruel and wrong to ANY living creature then it makes that poor creature unstable. wow! isnt that so simple , u just gotta have love
