Carli Davidson is best known for her breathtaking photographs of animals, but many are unaware that the award-winning photographer is also an experienced animal trainer and care worker. Her love of photography never outweighed her desire to work with animals, though. By uniting her two passions, Davidson's been able to tell the stories of dynamic pets and animals through her camera lens. In honor of National Disabled Pets Day, meet one of Davidson's most heart-warming subjects: Ramen Noodle, a courageous and spirited two-legged dog.

RAMEN NOODLE'S ORIGIN STORY
This is Ramen Noodle. He lost both of his front legs in separate accidents before he was 2 years old, resulting from poor breeding and poor care. His owner, Jamie, was his vet tech when he lost his first leg. After nursing him back to health, she adopted him.

ARTISTIC INSPIRATION
Davidson started the project two years ago when she was walking along Canon Beach near her home in Oregon. "There was this totally beautiful German Shepherd in a wheelchair playing fetch with its owner. It was so happy, a dog doing what dogs do, totally undeterred by its disability. I felt inspired by the whole scenario. The owner made this choice out of love, to do a little extra work every day to make sure his friend was happy and comfortable."
-
DOGGED DETERMINATION
Davidson was determined to create a project showcasing disabled pets like Ramen Noodle to show the world that they are happy, thriving companions.
-
DIFFERENT BUT HAPPY
"They are not sad, they are not in pain, and the owners and animals continue to be a great value to one another," says Davidson.
-
HOLY HOUND!
Only three weeks after losing the second front leg, Ramen was up and running on his hind legs. He also has a front wheelchair to get around outdoors, but prefers to walk on his own.
-
PUPPY POWER
Ramen is incredibly spirited, and seems almost totally uninhibited by his missing legs. He can run, jump up on chairs, and pick up his toys with no problem whatsoever.
-
BFF=BEST FIDO FRIENDS
Jamie and Ramen Noodle are inseparable. He never leaves her side, and travels with her wherever she goes from inside the comfort of his little blue backpack.
-
PASSION PROJECT
Davidson is currently working on a book about pets with disabilities featuring Ramen and other disabled dogs. "I really hope that what people take away from these stories is information to make decisions for their own pets, an appreciation for the resilience of all animals, and ultimately a sense of normalcy from the photos and stories."

This dog has overcome such a handicap! It looks like it doesn't even notice. I would be honored to be friends with such a courageous buddy:)

I have 3 non handicapped cats and would jump at the chance to have a dog like Ramen. You are the kind of person with your comment that I despise & frankly I pity you. You don't know the love of animal it is obvious- whether is has 4 legs or 2.

November 09 2012 at 2:25 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate downelffromhyrule - no doubt you can get a dog from an ad in the paper, but you don't know anything about the dog or it's health status. There are several viruses that animals can get or are born with that are fatal. The money you pay the agency includes all inoculations, heart worm treatments for both hw positive or hw negative animals (both need treatment), tests for other viruses/infections that may be present (i.e. URI or distemper), and the cost of neutering or spaying. So even though you may consider the fee high, all these things are what goes into the cost of adopting a dog. When you get a dog from a shelter, you can be pretty darn sure it's a healthy animal...not so with a dog found in an ad in the paper.

September 26 2012 at 4:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDogs provide unconditional love and are for the most part are nonjudgemental. There are more people out there I would prefer not to spend time with than dogs.
