you guys are just stupid i mean come on just let off they are just presenting facts they did not ask for all of your political mumbo jumbo just shut up and enjoy the ligers while they live
Exactly!!!. Humans inter-breed all the time..Hello!!!. The difference here is that the hybrid that has been created can not be released into wild because they have 2 different geo-habits. But they are beautiful!! But reading some of these comments, it may be over alot of these peoples heads..lol. Maybe in time they will figure how to release in wild..
Yes...very sad to do something like this to an animal. I think it must be something akin to Gigantism. I bet these poor animals probably suffer the same effects and diseases that other Giants of other species experience...except these poor fellows didn't even need to be created in the first place. And they aren't really beautiful animals...look at the bone structure...it's unnatural. How sad. Man cannot leave well enough alone...always messing and mucking about with nature. Man has lost his way in the world.
Excuse me, but I was taught that a ton was 2000 pounds and I believe still is. The article states that ligers weigh up to a ton then subsequently states that the largest liger weighed 1600 pounds. I didn't use a calculator to figure this out, but I think that's 400 pounds short of a ton. The disparity here may be the result of new math, which I wasn't taught in school.
Just another case of cyber reporting lacking credibility.
To respond to Veronica, if God had intended on having Ligers he would have created them a long time ago! Trust and believe the world has everything that we need. We don't need to recreate!
You are absolutely right. God did not make them and man forcing them to blend has unforeseen disastrous consequences. This is not a new species and not evolving but rather spiraling around the drain to impending doom. This is nothing but a cruel act against these noble animals.
What are they thinking ? Mixing breeds can result in unforeseen problems. When they breed again, does the offspring genes change so an aliment that was common in Africa, may not be good for an animal that had its early existance in Asia. Leave animal alone. They are beautiful just the way they are.
Actually, when cross breeding species you don't have to worry about that problem. Nature has a way of taking care of that by making the cross breeds first generation sterile. If not the first generation (which is the most likely scenario) then their children will be extremely weak and unable to breed at all. Think of mules, the hybrid of a donkey and a horse. They are extremely useful and amazing animals. They are stronger than donkeys and have more stamina for lugging things around than horses, not to mention they are really intelligent, and they are completely sterile. Anyway, ligers are sterile as well. But, in general, I agree with you: mother nature is doing an alright job.
Dawn, all humans (homosapiens) are the same species. Every ethnic group is capable of breed with every other ethnic group and producing non-sterile healthy children.
I think crossbreeding is cool! Ligers are awesome! Crossbreeding isn't always cruel. Sometimes it happens naturally in the wild. The result is a beautiful and unique design of nature!
Most species that are created in mother nature in general have many health issues (to Suzie Buck). Watch Cats 101 or Dogs 101 to see that most animals we think are normal actually are hybrids some don't even occur in nature. However I think my hybridizing animals and studying genes we may achieve something with the research.
