Real-Life "Pink Panther" Spotted in South Africa

Tourists on a safari in South Africa were in for a big surprise when they spotted a real-life "Pink Panther" during their tour. Photographer and safari guide Deon De Villiers was able to snap the fashionable feline on camera. While the leopard's spots help to camouflage him while stalking prey, this feline's strawberry tint surely makes him a stand-out.

According to Luke Hunter, president of wild cat conservation group Panthera, the rosy Leopard may suffer from erythrism, a genetic condition believed to cause production of either too much red or too little dark pigment. However, this condition is not debilitating to the big cat. From the looks of it, he appears to be healthy.

Discovery reports the only real danger to the pink leopard would be if he ventured out of the preserve. His odd-coloring could be a prime target for a trophy hunter.

Wish the "pink" leopard photo was bigger, so I could actually see the color. Maybe even put it side by side with a photo of a normal leopard, instead of a large slide show of random wild cat photos.
