I'm moving cross-country, and I'm going on a road-trip with my dog to get there. Is it OK for her to roam freely around the car or should I strap her in?

It absolutely is NEVER safe for pets to travel as cargo!!! Did you not hear of Jack the Cat and his 60+ days of being lost at JFK? Not to mention dozens of other cats and dogs that the airlines lose or mishandle every year. If your pet can't fly in the cabin with you... don't go! Simple as that.
