The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a shorty, but that doesn't mean this breed is under the radar. In fact, Corgis seem to be the most popping thing on four legs these days. Examples of their adorableness are appearing all over the web -- looking at you "Corgi Loves His Security Blanket." And these dogs must stay up all night because they are still consistently churning out new cuteness. It doesn't seem like these ottoman-shaped dogs are fading from pup-ularity anytime soon, which means it's time to take a look at the factors that make this canine a big deal.

The rising fanaticism over Corgis can be traced back to three captivating aspects: stature, costumes and the Queen of England.

Stature: Like the Dachshund and the Munchkin Cat, Corgis are low-to-the-ground pets that can always get a good "Aww" because of their sweet squatness. The long body and little legs combo is also ripe with golden Youtube potential as the body type lends itself to plenty of precious, titter-tottering moments. When you are genetically prone to be cute it is hard to fight the fame that comes with it.

Costumes: Dog costumes must be tailored to the compact Corgi body. Outfit choices like buses, bananas and caterpillars may look like creatures on stilts on other breeds, but these outfits thrive on the Corgi's stocky build. These pooches must be pretty patient as well, because they always seem down for donning a costume. And if you are looking for a quick way to get your pet noticed on the web-o-sphere, forcing it into costumes is definitely one of the fastest tracks. Plus, with figureheads like Red Lobster opening doors for these dressed up dogs, there is no stopping them.

The Queen of England: Her Majesty is pretty much a Corgi hipster, proudly owning this type of pup way before the Internet even existed. Thanks to her passion for the English breed, Corgis got to ride the Royal Wedding craze wave. Pippa Middleton's behind may have won over masses of men, but Corgis certainly got plenty of press during the historic event, including a giant Corgi-shaped cake crafted to celebrate the nuptials. Folks don't make towering wedding cakes shaped like just any kind of dog, you know. And let's not forget the recent edition of Entertainment Weekly featuring break-out comedy actress of the year Melissa McCarthy dressed as the Queen holding -- what else? -- a Corgi. See, EW knows Corgis are the coolest right now.

That's your brief history lesson on why the Corgi went from cute dog to totally en vogue canine. And it is our hope that as long as there are ridiculously charming dog costumes, there are adorable Corgis to wear them (and obsessive owners to upload pictures). For now, we are safe. Because isn't it pawvious? Corgis are having a moment.
