Christopher the Cat with one of his friends, Facebook
It all started on March 15, when Christopher was brought to the Nine Lives Foundation with what Dr. Monica Thompson, DVM, describes as "severe pelvic fractures." Christopher was found by a group of cyclists on Crystal Spring Rd., the inspiration for the name Christopher, after the orange tabby had apparently been hit by a car.
"We take in special needs cats and I agreed to work on him," Thompson tells Paw Nation. Though she expected to perform extensive surgery on the Christopher, Thompson says she didn't need to. "While we kept him, his condition just kept improving, so I left him alone. Then one day, he just jumped out of his cage and started walking." After six weeks, he was walking around with ease. "Now he's even running," Thompson says.
Miraculous as Christopher's recovery may be, it's only the first item on his impressive superhero resumé. He has since become the clinic's primary feline caretaker, often climbing into cages with terminally ill cats and bathing them. Christopher's charity was put to the test in July, when two feral kittens were brought into Nine Lives.
According to Thompson, the kittens were too wild to be handled. "We put the cats in Christopher's old cage and he would visit them everyday. The kittens would reach out of their cage to him," Thompson explains. After two weeks of working his magic, the two kittens were completely tame and, what's more, ready to be adopted. We'll call that minor miracle number two.
Perhaps Christopher's greatest claim to fame occurred just a few weeks ago. "We had a kitten that was severely anemic and needed a blood transfusion right away. But since it was late at night, I didn't have any blood in my freezer," Dr. Thompson tells Paw Nation. That's when Christopher stepped in; he jumped up on the table and began bathing the anemic kitten as it struggled to breathe.
"The kitten didn't even have enough blood to type it," Thompson explains, but both cats being fairly common short-haired alley cats, both would most likely have type-A blood. With time running out, Thompson made the call and transfused blood from Christopher to the dying kitten. As you may have guessed, it worked. However, there is a twist: Both cats were actually type B.
Thompson couldn't believe it when she learned that both cats possessed the same rare blood type. "I don't even have another type B in the hospital. I've been looking for one. It was as if Christopher knew it would work," explains Thompson. "It's like he's a really intelligent person reincarnated as a cat. It's hard to explain."

Wow what an amazing story! I have always believed that cats can sense things and are so smart! I hope Christopher has a forever home with them and have Christopher help with other animals, when they need to be helped! Stories like this make me smile all day!
I completely agree with all these comments. Most people think it's dogs and I agree they are very good. But, cats are also very, very good and make wonderful companions. I have three wonderful cats (I think) which I love dearly.
What an inspiring and beautiful story! This really made my day! I've saved this site to my favorite and hope to see some more news and pics of Christopher in the months and years ahead! God bless Christopher and all the people at the animal clinic.
Fantastic, beautiful story!! I have two little problems with it though. "Minor" miracles? and "It's like he's a really intelligent person reincarnated as a cat." A miracle is a miracle. It wasn't minor to those that needed the miracles and they are no less important of a life than we. Even if "we" are pompous enough to believe that they are. Also, why does he have to be magically given human abilities or capabilities to be great? It seems he did a fine job as the cat that he is. :)
Beautiful story. Cats are the greatest!
You are so right, nelle! Cats ARE the greatest!
GREAT COMMENTS, I HAVE A CAT ALSO I HAVE DOGS , THEY ARE ALL THE GREATEST, NOT JUST ONE BUT ALL.
thanks for making me smile today!

best heartwarming story in a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Puuurrrrfectly beautiful story! Cats rule!
What a wonderful story, thanks for sharing. love my cats.
Such a sweet story! I never really believed that human spirits can inhabit animals, but after an experience with my departed cat, Lester, I know they do.
I totally agree that the departed can inhabit a cat. Recently I lost my Mom, the cat that our family has now name Callie has taken to me like no other cat we have had before. My mom when she was alive would always listen to whatever problems i had even as an adult. When I go to bed at night and am feeling sad Callie will come in and lay real close to me on the bed while I tell her how I feel, I feel like I am talking to my Mom and everything is going to be ok.
That is truly amazing! I think that kitty should be nominated for sainthood!
Cats are the very best !! Nice to hear a happy story for a change !!! Great work Christopher !! You go supreme cat. Hope you have a very happy, loving, safe life.
I think he should have a distinct title in front of his name: "Saint" Christopher.
Amazing!! What a special cat! Thanks, for sharing Christophers story!
My kitties and I consider you a hero Christopher! May all your 9 lives be filled with happiness!
christopher is an excellent example of why i love cats, more than humans most days :)
More proof that cats are smarter than dogs. I had cats until my son was born with an allergy to animals. My cats always had the ability to tell a good person from an a-hole. You feed a dog and your his friend for life. Cats are not that easy.
